On Friday Night I saw Sigur Ros at Louisville Palace. It was the perfect venue. This is probably the most beautiful place to see a show I've ever seen. Take a look.
http://www.louisvillepalace.com/tours/stage.htm
Sigur Ros, as well, was unbelievable.
They opened up with "Glosoli" behind this screen. At the crescendo, the screen came up and they started rocking the shit out of everybody.
They're such an amazing band to watch. Jón Þór Birgisson plays his guitar with a bow. The bassist was playing his bass with a drumstick. The opening act played behind them as a string quartet.
I can't remember the exact setlist, but they largely selected from "( )" and "Takk...". I know they played Hoppipolla/Meo Blodnasir, Saeglopur, Gong, Svo Hljott, Heysatan, Vaka and Samskeyti, plus a few others. They closed their first set with a song I've never heard before. Naturally, it's Sigur Ros so I couldn't identify any of the lyrics, but it was an incredible song and I've been driving myself nuts trying to find a setlist so I can find out what it's called. It's not on any of their albums, so I suspect it's a new song. If that's what's to come on their next album it's probably going to be the best album of all time.
The highlight, though, was probably closing with "Popplagio" at the very end. It's the perfect song to close with. The screen came back down, and for the final few minutes we saw silhouettes of them rocking out harder than just about anyone I've ever seen.
It's common for me to say this after I've seen a show, but it was the best concert I've ever seen. |

Wow! That place is unlike anything I've ever seen before and you got to see Sigur Ros there. I don't doubt it was the best concert ever. Damn. _________________

Last night, I went to the State College leg of the Screaming is for Babies tour, for little reason beyond getting the chance to see Gatsbys American Dream.
Their entire set was incredibly tight, and they even played a new song.
The best part, though, was that after the show, I managed to talk to Nic for a a long time, got to meet all of the band at different points, got to hang out in their van for a minute or two, got all of their autographs, and everything. I think I can say that they are the coolest, nicest, most awesome, down-to-earth guys I've ever met. _________________

Went to Bleeding Through in St. Paul last night.
Opening for them were Haste the Day, Between the Buried and Me, and As I Lay Dying. All of which I had never listened to before that day.
I don't listen to metal unless I happen to be with a friend who likes metal. Bleeding Through is the only metal band I can honestly enjoy. All the other ones just kinda piss me off because their names are so damn similar. As I Lay Dying, It Dies Today, Every Time I Die, etc, etc... I mean come now, is the concept of death the only thing cool enough to name a band after?
Anyway, the show was pretty good. I can enjoy metal with metalheads to some degree. Bleeding Through was pretty damn good but that was expected. _________________ Wha... Money in the Bank?

I went to see Taking Back Sunday on the 11th and then Alkaline Trio on the 13th.
TBS played a really good show and it seemed like they really enjoyed playing. My night was pretty much topped off seeing Adam Lazzara singing the encore whilst swinging upside down from the rafters, awesome.
Alkaline Trio were the exact opposite, they just seemed to rush through their set and played no encore. Despite an energetic crowd, as soon as they were finished, they just rushed out the back into the waiting van. _________________ Is Don Is Good |

I almost never get to see live music, 'cause the city I live in isn't real conducive to "going to shows" unless I want to see short 20 year olds playing at a VFW hall. That being said, I got to see Sarah Harmer in a tiny cramped venue over the weekend, and it was absolutely amazing. I think she's kind of got a reputation as "music to buy for your parents," but if you have even a slight appreciation for the singer/songwriter, girl-with-a-guitar style of music, you should make a point to check her out. _________________ I am the black Jim Thome. |

Dear Emily,
You are forgetting about the super fun Life house concerts thrown by Ohio University!
Love,
Sami
For serious though, Cake played last year and that was pretty awesome. _________________ We'll start a new wave band, and then I'll make you mine. |
