I saw System of a Down and The Mars Volta sunday. Came for the volta, stayed for the system. Bit of a letdown, but I'll take what I can get, show-wise.

Saw Common back in July. It was the best concert Ive ever been to in my life. If he ever comes to your town I strongly advise you to see him. Truly, a great show.

Last show I was at was when Modest Mouse played Chicago in early August. It was a great show, especially at the end when all the opening bands and some crew partied onstage to The Good Times Are Killing Me. Some of the audience members also co-starred for a few seconds until the security guards tackled them.

However, on October the 8th I will see Les Claypool play Milwaukee. And I make the bold prediction that it will kick ass.

i recently saw rilo kiley and coldplay. rilo kiley's set was short (i expected as much) and filled with their catchiest songs. coldplay's lighting show was fantastic, and they sang some johnny cash songs since they were in texas. it was an excellent show!

I'll be going to see mc chris in Bloomington in a couple of weeks. Definitely excited about that one. Hopefully he can do a full version of For the Shorties or I Want/Need Candy. 642 Warf Avenue!

My friend told me that they played some Johnny Cash here as well. I think it was in Nashville.

Saw Flogging Molly last weekend. I'd never been a particular fan of the band before I got the free tickets, but they managed to sway me that night. They do an incredible show.

I'm also seeing the Foo Fighters and Weezer in October.

sufjan stevens last night was possibly the best show i've ever been to. i'd say everyone should go, but it was the last show on the tour, and every one of his tours is completely different. the music was so extremely tight i couldn't believe it. the harmonies and all of the strange instrumentation were spot on. his backing band was called the "illinoisemakers" and they all acted like a cheerleading squad ... i can't really explain it, but it was amazing. really.

By the way, the Pixies were pretty great. I could have done without the 14-year-old punks causing a ruckus in front of me and also the Sasquatch motherfucker who kept pogoing and drifting backwards, such that he kept stomping on my feet (flip-flops were a bad choice), thus breaking one of my toenails so that now it looks totally gross, but otherwise, it was a good time. Other notes:
-I was like 10 feet from the stage.
-Black Francis has put on so much weight.
-It was amusing to note the divisions in the crowd: on the left (talking about physical space, not political orientation here), young teenagers and scrofulous townies; in the middle, hipsters and grad students; on the right, the mommy and daddy set, which seemed to be composed of ex-hipsters and the parents of the teenagers.
-The pantomime thing they did at the end where Black Francis "talked Kim Deal into just one more song" was pretty funny.

Good concert.

Next person to say anything about broken toenails will have all sorts of terrible things done to his family. Consider that your first and final warning.
