I saw Sufjan Stevens last Sunday. The cheerleading gimmick was cute and he came across as a very nice and down-to-earth guy. Casimir Pulaski Day had me sniffling.

If anything the gig was a bit on the short side, but maybe I should just stop comparing every band I see to the Slackers.

How attractive would you say he is on a scale of 1-10?

That entirely depends on whether or not he's holding a banjo at the time.

10 no matter what.

and hey, he told us we were the last show on the illinoisemakers tour. maybe i misheard him.

anywho, how awesome were the chants before songs?

more importantly, how amazing was the a capella intro to "the tallest man, the broadest shoulders"? did he play that first? i was disappointed they didn't play "come on! feel the illinoise", but i stand by my original statement of it being the tightest live musical performance i've ever seen. ok, maybe a tie with brian wilson's band. but that's saying something.

Weezer and the Foo Fighters. Oh man was that great. I was afraid Weezer would play a bunch of their crappy new songs, but they only played 2 off the new album (Beverly Hills and We Are All On Drugs). Pretty much everything else they played was awesome (especially when Rivers walked into the crowd and did an acoustic version of Holiday, and the Buddy Holly finale, featuring several male strippers dancing on a giant Weezer symbol above the band). I'd have liked them to have done Pink Triangle or El Scorcho, but besides that, it was great.

But the Foo Fighters blew them away. They completely rocked their new singles like DOA, played most of their old stuff, and absolutely blew the place down with Everlong, perhaps the greatest single song I've ever seen performed live. I firmly believe that Dave Grohl would win in a fight against Jesus, Moses and Mohammad.

Stars

(I didn't get very many good pictures of them because I was in a shitty spot when they played)

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

(this is my favorite of the whole batch)

(super cool)

(this one is also cool)

(The bassist and the girl from Stars came out for the finale, which was Transatlanticism)

(He looks like Jesus)

(Ben Gibbard plays the drums wtf)

(This is awesome)

Ben Gibbard lookin like a broke-ass William H. Macy. When I first heard Death Cab for Cutie a couple years ago, I pictured him as looking basically exactly like Conor Oberst, and was quite disgusted when I found out what he actually looks like.

Went to see Ben Folds for the first time last night. He played a lot of great ones, mostly recent but with a couple old favorites thrown in there, too. He was confused by the crowd's fascination with the word 'Bitch,' which I guess is a good way to deal with some drunk dude shouting "ROCK THIS BITCH" between the first five or six songs before getting the point.

He also tried to explain "Bastard" as a song about cycles. Wheels. A bike. A Harley Davidson. My girlfriend, a friend who is moving to Denton this weekend, and I had an awesome time.

In conclusion, I really like Ben Folds and I think you should too.

i was at that show as well! i've seen ben folds five times now, and that was definitely the best of all of them. him having a band is so excellent compared to him just by himself.

The last show I went to was some really shitty emo concert at the local coffee shop (I hate emo music, I just went to hang out with some friends). I've never seen so many emo kids in one place before.

Tonight, Piebald. They were tight.

Also, they were preceded by three acts I had never really heard, all of whom were very good: I Am the Avalanche, Hit the Lights, and Trouble Everyday.

I love Piebald alot.

Anyway, the last show I went to was Death Cab For Cutie.

The last show I truly enjoyed was Turbonegro.

I also saw The Melvins with Jello Biafra a few weeks ago. It was pretty entertaining.

If you dont know Roy Ayers - you dont know acid jazz - dude is 65 years old and still kicks it. The concert went until after 1am. Sick. Check him out:

Opeth, Nevermore, and Atomic Fireball. AF were OK, Nevermore was disappointing, Opeth was awesome, and the headbanging kid next to me that sang along to everything in a Beavis-style grunt was highly entertaining. His hair also helped to fan me and keep me cool.
