I guess the following can go in here:

They made The Cutting Edge 2. They did it. It's done. It will be airing on ABC or something. The Cutting Edge. TWO. Apparently Hollywood (and Disney in particular) will not rest until they've destroyed everything that has been good at one time or another.

I, um, watched that last night. I was bored. It sucked. It was like Cutting Edge I but with new actors. The whole story was the exact same thing only it was supposed to be their kid grown up. The mom and dad were "Kate and Doug" and they say it in the very beginning but I could not believe them to be them the entire time. The actors totally mis-nailed their characters.

Fargo

He's fleein the interview. Peter Stormare loves pancakes and sex with hookers. Wood-chippers are fun. I dunno, just funny lookin.

My disjointed thoughts aside, this was/is a really good movie. I think it pales in comparison to The Big Lebowski, but really - what doesn't? Oh - and for those of you who have seen both: the reason why John Goodman's character in TBL keeps telling Steve Buscemi character to 'shut the fuck up Donny', is because in Fargo - Steve's character never stops talking.

Busy movie day for me.

Carnosaur. Because it was there, and I dare not dwell deeper than that.

My Neighbor Totoro. Beautiful and simple film. I rented the Fox DVD, dubbed, which I'm pretty sure is edited. I grabbed an original cut edition at Chinatown that I thought had english subtitles (mainly because the cover said it had english subtitles) but was misled. I plan to watch it now now that I know the general dialoge and see what they changed.

Finally, I went to the midnight premiere of V For Vendetta.
First off, for those who like things close to the source material, this film is not for you. I'm not just saying the structure has been moved around or dialoge changed, or that V was given organic knives instead of knives made of science, but that entire meanings were changed out. Many of V's veiwpoints are made. His ideas of anarchism and natural order are completely ignored. His theater nature is toned down and humanized a bit. In the film, V throws a few pissy fits, which doesn't fit his graphic novel counterpart at all.

Adam Sutler is made more an empty shell villain, which I hate because his scenes were some of my favorite in the film. Dominic is now happy go lucky sidekick, and his wife is never mentioned, getting rid of the best subplot in the entire story. For a minute I thought they were gonna cut out Valerie's note, thank god that was left mostly intact.

But for those of you who don't care if it's close, or haven't read the graphic novel yet, there can be some things to take out of it. It's not a horrible eyes-scratched out version of the source material (unlike, say, King Kong) and there are some pretty sweet scenes and themes to take home with you.

I personally felt "eh" about the film. Take that as you will.
Traffic, which is always a good movie to watch, even if the whole tint thing annoys me.

V for Vendetta. V for very fucking good (har har). Really, it was excellent. I went in expecting an action movie (hint: it's not one), but was not the least bit disappointed to find that the little bit of action takes a back seat to the story. I recommend it, with gusto.

Furthermore, it would appear that Greg and I have a completely opposite taste in movies.

I just watched Good Night, And Good Luck with my parents. It's kind of hard to articulate how I feel about it. One the one hand, I enjoyed the hell out of it. On the other, I don't know that it was worthy of the praise piled upon it. Like, I thought the performances were very competant, but nothing extraordinary. And while I appreciated what Clooney was going for, I felt a bit hit over the head by the entire movie. Like it only existed for us to exit the theater, take a look at our current media and political climate, and go, "HEEEEY, I see what you did there." Like the movie was only made to make a point, not to actually tell the story.

So, in short, a definite thumbs up. I just don't know how well the movie will hold up over time.

Actually, on second thought, I think the movie will be BETTER in say 20 years. Because then we will be able to view it strictly as a film, and not a LIBERAL AGENDA OMG. Or not. I'm maybe too hoped up on cold medicine to make my point accurately. But David Straithairn gives me an old man happy.

Well, just out of curiosity, did you read the graphic novel? If I hadn't read it before seeing it, I would have agreed with you 100%, but I know what they could have done with it and didn't, and it left me kind of dissappointed.

That's probably the key. I didn't ever read the graphic novel.

I'm sorry. I'm becoming boorish already.

It was the first thing that popped into my head.

I think graphic novels and comic books are the same thing, and comic book movies made me think of Fantastic Four. At least V for Vendetta has SOME decent acting, and no twinkling-in-denial fairy boys jumping off of buildings in spandex yelling "FLAME ON".

I mean, really, were we supposed to think any differently?

Okay guy, just cut it out. Don't try so hard to be funny or whatever and everything will be fine. If you draw attention to yourself every time you post it isn't going to do anything positive. We've established that you're a homophobe and also gay but not. That's cool. Let's talk constructively.
