A Mighty Wind seemed the most forced of all the Guest movies. Levy's character just annoyed me.

The Ice Harvest

Aside from the last fifteen minutes - boy was that ever bad. Pretty poorly laid out if you ask me.

Films like A Mighty Wind and even Best in Show seem slow until Fred Willard is introduced. I swear to Christ he's the funniest man on earth.

Just stopping to ask the other commentator to try and guess how much he could bench press was a sign of true genius.

King Kong (Peter Jackson Remix)

This movie sucked.

It sucked and I absolutely hated it.

Absolutely hated it.

I absolutely hated every single minute I was in that seat.

All 562 of them.

All the green gummy bears in the world couldn't make me enjoy this movie. What's worse is that not only did it suck, but I hated it. King Arthur and The Village sucked, but I've never had more fun in a movie theatre than when I saw King Arthur. King Kong was just one long punch in my will to live. It's the only movie I ever left early.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is like watching an FMV cutscene from Warhawk or some other first generation PSX game given a bigger budget and stretched to 90 minutes.

I can't decide whether the '30s serial thing simply can't be stretched to feature length or whether this movie just wasn't good enough to do it.

I saw Shopgirl over the weekend. It was kind of really sweet, actually. Steve Martin playing a more realistic person and not the same I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS SITUATION character as described in the P-Boi article kind of worked, and Jason Schwartzman was really entertainingly goofy and had a tremendous energy. Also, Clare Daines was really great too.
Since I have to say something negative, there were a lot of subplots that were dropped suddenly and the second act the movie drags on and on, and no coincidence Schawrtzman's character is absent for a good half hour.
Still, not bad for three bucks at the cheapies.

I saw Crash this morning. Apparently it won some sort of award?

The point of this post isn't to bash or praise the movie or even make jokes about that other movie that almost won, but to once again remind everyone how big of a geek I am.

Those of you who have seen the movie should remember the 'fairy cape.' As he was explaining it, I immediately started translating it into a D&D magic item (+1 natural AC bonus that stacks with all other bonuses and is not taken away for a touch attack or when caught flat-footed. Must be passed on when the wearer's child reaches the human equivalent of 5 years of age, for those that wanted to know).

I almost did that for the St. Christopher dashboard thing, but then I just figured it would count as a holy symbol for divine spellcasters.

Tsiotsi, or however it's spelled. The movie that one best furrin picture at the oscars. Very good, well acted, and decent writing. I recommend it.

Sanjuro, its sequel, was also really awesome, so you should pick that up if you can.

Also now you know the plot for like 9000 rip-off movies.

Till today I've been restricted to either buying films or checking out whatever they have at the library, which I've nearly emptied already of good titles and I'm left with things like Freddy Got Fingered. Today I got an account with perhaps the most kickass Hollywood Video I've ever seen. There's just about every film I can think of here, including a shit load of foreign films (including just about every Disney released Studio Ghibli title), so there shall be much film indulging.

Like I really needed to speed up.

I've seen quite a few movies lately, and since I'm on vacation and am too lame to leave the hotel's free computer lab, I'm going to post brief thoughs on them!!

-The Family Stone
This Winter I had really wanted to see this for some reason, and I can't figure out why. It's definitely the type of movie that I'm glad I saw on an airplane. Different than the trailer made it seem to be, and not very good at all. Hm.

-Pride and Motherfucking Prejudice starring an old used fucking tampon, Keira Knightley
I've been bashing this movie for months without having seen it. I love Keira Knightley's body, and she has a lovely neck, but I hate every other thing about her. First of all, Parminder Nagra is way prettier and should have gotten much more fame after Bend it Like Beckham, but the sad fact is that it's hard to write a part for an Indian girl without making her heritage a big deal for writers. Also, I am obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, like any self-respecting literature major at a liberal arts college who went to all girls' school for 9 years. The novel is great, and the BBC miniseries starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle is greater. This movie sucked the dingleberries out of its own asshole. First of all, it was too short to give any of the meaningful scenes their due time, and spent precious minutes on superfluous scenes of Keira Butthole Pussy Knightley on a fucking swing. Secondly, the characters were just...not done right at all. In the BBC miniseries, they're all just at the perfect point past caricature to make them believable, but lively. In this movie, they're all boring or just false (for example, making Bingley a blithering fool). Also, everything else about the movie was terrible.

-Match Point
I actually didn't quite know what to expect with this. I really enjoyed it, but was glad that I only had to spend $2.50 on a Woody Allen movie, because I just feel gross supporting him. The tennis ball / wedding ring scenes were really cool, and I genuinely liked Jonathan Rhys-Myers' performance (first time he's been more than eye candy to me). Also, probably the hottest sex scenes I've seen in any movie. I mean...I've never wanted to have sex in a field before, but this movie made it look goooood.

-The Cutting Edge
Toe pick![/u]

You and I both, sister. Maybe it speaks volumes to my character, but I'd pick Billy Madison over a Woody Allen movie any day of the week.
