Microcosmos. Has anyone seen it? I own the VHS and I've always wanted to upgrade to the DVD. It's amazing. They show extreme close-ups of bugs going about their everyday business, like a beetle pushing along a ball of dung and getting stuck, the inside of an ant hill and how they store their food, snails having sex, bugs fighting, bugs gliding along water, catepillars marching in a row, bees exiting hives, etc. The sound effects they have are awesome too, I don't know if they're real, but you can hear the insects eat, hit each other, and even walk, it's insane.

Havoc

As tired as I am of seeing Bijou's tits and gigantic forehead, coupled with her horrible acting - for some reason I managed to sit through this movie. Maybe it was Anne Hathaway acting like a real social reject - or that all the white people in this movie are bad caricatures of what older people think 'teens' do/sound like. Either way, there was something about it that made me kind of go 'how much worse can they make this?' - and that must have spiked my desire to see the film in its entirety. You know, like watching a train wreck...you don't want to look - but you cant help yourself.

Anyhow, really bad movie, and I don't recommend it to anyone. If you really want to check out what the chick from Princess Diaries looks like naked, save yourself the 2 hours and ask B to post some Screen Caps from 'celebritymoviearchive' or something.

Capote. Capote comes off as a duplicitous, manipulative asshole, but I thought the movie itself was right good. PSH and Clifton Collins were both excellent.

Ashes and Diamonds, a little talked-about Polish war classic, and I loved it. Maciek is a wonderful and tragic character, and I will wear his sunglasses forever.

Fearless Freaks. Very good documentary, especially if you're a Flaming Lips fan. My admiration for Wayne Coyne has gone up a bunch after watching it.

I <3 Huckabees. Finally. I've really been missing out on something wonderful. Everyone was fucking fantastic, but more than anyone else, I <3 Mark Wahlberg.

Yes Jim! Huckabees was one of the best movies released that year. Kudos on finally watching it and joining the enlightend masses. And while Marky Mark (though lacking his funky bunch) was amazing - I really think you gotta give it up to Jason Schwartzman. Dude fucking rocks.

Moving on...

Jarhead

This wasnt *that* bad. I heard that it was a real shitstorm of a movie and that it didnt go anywhere. To be honest, it kept me entertained for the most part. While I didnt really care one way or the other if anyone died - I really did feel sorry for these guys and their whorish wives and girlfriends. Overall - not too bad; not too good either, but not too bad.

I have a question for anyone that is willing to answer. I am very intrigued by Howl's Moving Castle, even though I have never seen any of the director's previous work like Porco Rosso. Has anyone seen Howl's? I am pretty much going to buy it anyway, regardless of what anyone says, because I get the feeling that I will definitely enjoy it. I've also been interested in Porco Rosso since I read about it in an article here (I believe it was the best 100 film characters), so I may just grab them both ...

any thoughts? Thanks!

Yes. I have seen Howl's Moving Castle.

"Any thoughts?" Um. Buy them. Watch them. Floss regularly.

dawn of the dead. slowly but surely, i'm workin' my way up the list. anyway, i liked it, moreso than NOTLD, but i found it worked better as a comedy/satire than as a horror film. maybe that was the point?

Pocket Ninjas. This is the kind of dumb film that Bill would write about and get a star next to the link. So poorly put together, it's so disconnected from any kind of plot that you can't even call it a 3 Ninjas ripoff. However, know I want a game where Robert Z'Dar's giant head fights Cobra Commander Street Fighter-style.

To get the bad taste out of my mouth, I followed it up with Rocky. I watched them all pretty much in reverse. Yeah, I know I'm behind. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot.

In the same vein as Pocket Ninjas, the last movie I saw was American Ninja, which contains the scene now being used as a fad in YTMNDs (http://ninjabootcamp.ytmnd.com/). It's just...it's campy. It's an eighties movie about ninjas. My favorite part was the fact that the main bad guy (a Columbian drug dealer/weapons smuggler, we're never really told which) has at his disposal A VAST ARMY OF NINJAS. Also the main character is an American who lost his memory, washed up on an island with an old Japanese officer who never learned the war was over, learned Ninjitsu from said officer, got caught in an explosion, lost his memory again, and was brought to the United States.

Also early in the movie Joe (the American Ninja) catches a lot of shit for fighting back when his convoy comes under attack by rebel forces instead of surrendering. Also his buddies and he are doing pretty well until THEY ARE ATTACKED BY FREAKING NINJAS IN THE SOUTH AMERICAN JUNGLE.

The new "The Hills Have Eyes"

Horror movies never have any real effect on me but there was one scene at around the hour mark that was just fucking disturbing. Other than that, your average horror fare.

I love love love horror. I haven't had the chance to go see the new The Hills Have Eyes but soon, soon, hopefully.

I did, however, get to see The Devil's Rejects this weekend. I loved it so much that I tried to start a conversation about it with every person I've talked to since then. None of them seemed to like it, though. Whatever.

Interesting title, great movie and now in my top 5.

(Bonus points for the New Zealand accents)

A Mighty Wind. A whole lot better than I was expecting considering that Eugene Levy is in it and I think folk music should diediedie. I was cracking up at several spots, and just generally loved it.

The presence of Eugene Levy is not a negative so long as he's in a Christopher Guest film.

Yeah, even though Levy will do any schlock for a check these days, the man is still damn funny when he is in a good role.

I also saw the Hills Have Eyes, and I definitely enjoyed it. It was a good time.
