This forum needs a kick in the ass.

We've all had personal fallings out with a band for one reason or another. Maybe their last album took a direction we weren't happy with, or the lead singer became an arrogant cock. Whatever the reason may be, it can cause us to distance ourselves from an entire discography based on the merit of that one defining incident.

I stopped listening to No Doubt once Rock Steady hit based on the degree to which "Hey Baby" sucked ass. I assumed Gwen Stefani let her recent pairings with Eve and Moby influence the direction the band was taking and even let my bias ruin "Underneath it All" (which I'll toss credibility under the bus by saying is a good throwback to their earlier reggae/dub influenced stuff now that I've heard it again with an unbiased agenda).

Anyway, I found myself going through some old CDs earlier tonight & decided to throw in the Beacon Street Collection just for kicks. Maybe it comes with refined appreciation for the style of music, but I forgot about how good a collection of ska & new wave the CD is. They manage to homage Madness without coming off as cheesy or ironic in the process, and I really can't believe I've gone years without listening to them just because of one stupid song.

Has anybody else fallen back in love with an estranged favorite recently?

I have a love/hate relationship with the Offspring.

Everytime I even think about Original Prankster I want to slit Dexter Hollands Throat, but then I listen to L.A.P.D. and I love them again.

Nothing was more relieving to me than at Warped Tour last year when they played nothing but old favorites.

Without getting into why I think AFI is terrible, every now and then I'll hear something off of Very Proud of Ya' and then I remember how good the band could've been.

Weezer kills me softly. Their first song that I heard was Buddy Holly (like everyone else in my generation) and I dug the hell out of it. Island in the sun was a nice relaxing tune, and I liked that. I liked quite a few of their tunes. Then I went out and bought my first album from them: Pinkerton. Now I know there are some fans of it on here, but holy hellfuck was it an atrocity.

By the way I'll sell it to anyone for five bucks. I never throw away CD's so it's just sitting in my CD case right now.

I aint here to start a revolution. Just sayin it sucks balls is all.

EDIT: As a side note I know a ton of people who can't stand it. If we wanted to hear music with no structure we could listen to a kid playing the oboe for the first time.

I feel the same way. After Sing the Sorrow I basically stopped listening to them altogether, and they used to be like my favorite band.

When I first saw the title of this new thread, I thought Justin was going to be talking about The Cars getting back together, but then I realized that like nobody really seems to ever like The Cars. I'm excited, anyway.

I love The Cars, but I can't say that I'm excited for a reunion.

I don't know about you, son. You don't think The Good Life or Why Bother? are great, catchy little pop songs like everything on Blue? Their playing and the production's a lot looser on Pinkerton but to say the songs aren't structured is just silly.

radiohead better than muse are you some kind of madman?

Also, Pinkerton is an awesome album. Any implication that it is more like Stinkerton will be met with severe punishment in the form of I will make you listen to Make Believe all day and night.

Pinkerton is amazing. I will admit that when I first heard it back in high school I was disappointed, because in my estimation it didn't measure up to the feel-good catchy-alterna that the Blue Album (which I was addicted to like crack from the moment I received it on Christmas morning in the year of our Lord The Sweater Song and Buddy Holly) delivered. It was truly ahead of its time in much the same way that if I had actually heard Keasby Nights in 1997, I don't think I would have liked it. Time is kind to musical tastes.

Yes, but Pavement started out by doing the whole Slanted And Enchanted-type thing and didn't really deviate from that, whereas The Blue Album was alterna-pop above all else and then they pulled the Pinkerton about-face which I don't think anyone expected.

1. Never fully listened to Blue. After hearing Pinkerton I avoided everything else they did, which is why I posted it here, remember?
2. Alright, the songs aren't un-structured, they just have a really shitty structure and opt for the most rugged fucking chords ever played on a guitar. It sounds like the guitarist is playing the guitar for the first time in a Guitar Center every time he tries to 'break-down.' Plus the singer sounds like such an amateur on it. What the hell is with him, he sounds like he's struggling to hit his notes the whole album (mind you I am listening to it right now, so this isnt't from memory anymore).
The Good Life has some nostalgic qualities but other than that this album has no value for me.
