If the two songs they have made available on their myspace are any indication of the quality of the album overall -- then holy shit folks! I dont think Built to Spill has ever really made music like this before, but I likes it alot. And I'm usually not a huge fan of elongated jam sessions.
I know theres some built to spill fans here. So celebrate with me in anticipation!
Goin Against Your Mind - Starts off like a song by the feelies with the simple guitar part and the steady, pumping beat. But by midpoint its turned into a total spatial jam session, but it doesnt lose any of its steam in the transition.
Conventional Wisdom - Sounds like an old school Matthew Sweet song only better and with catchier guitar parts/tricks sprinkled throughout. Very rocking. |

I have a bunch of just randomly downloaded Built to Spill songs on my computer. "Kicked it in the Sun" is one of my all-time favorite songs. I also really like "Reasons." I decided to download a whole album of theirs (Ancient Melodies of the Future) and didn't like it all that much.

Ancient Melodies isn't that great of an album, save a track or two. Get/download Keep It Like A Secret for the win.

Ancient Melodies is definately the weak link in what is a string of 4 great albums.
There's Nothing Wrong With Love
Perfect From Now On
Keep it Like a Secret
All are albums that would recieve a grade of A or better.
And hopefully joining them soon...
