First off, I'd like to say hello again, and what are the haps my friends?
Now then. Plans. The new Death Cab for Cutie album. Yeah yeah I know they did the OC and got all popular, but has anyone heard it yet?
Just on my first listen now. Impressions so far tell me that this won't be as good as Transatlanticism, but hell they still know how to make beautiful songs (see Brothers on a Hotel Bed)
Anyone else have a thought on the matter? |

I got it a few weeks ago. It's not as good as Transatlanticism, but it's as good as the other ones. I like it. "Soul Meets Body" and "Crooked Teeth" are both quality. _________________

i think it's better than transatlanticism, but that doesn't make it their best. i'd rank their top 5 as follows:
1.) the photo album
2.) we have the facts and we're voting yes
3.) something about airplanes
4.) plans
5.) transatlanticism _________________ the whole world is waiting to see when you fall.

I think my favorite of theirs is the Forbidden Love EP, if only because 405 and Photobooth are practically my favorite songs ever.
I have Plans but I haven't listened to the entire thing yet, certainly not enough to say whether it's better than any of their other albums. It sounds pretty awesome so far. _________________ BANKER: HAY MY TURN TO TALK NOW |

"What Sarah Said" is a strikingly beautiful song.
i bought Plans the other day.
Ben Gibbard is a melodist. he makes beautiful melodies. he makes about 4 or 5 of them and sort of recycles them in all his songs, but they're still beautiful. some of the melodies on Plans sound like they're lifted directly off of Transatlanticism.
i like that there is more piano than on some of their other albums and i can hear traces of Elliott Smith in some of the guitar playing and a little influence from Rilo Kiley,.
really the only trace of Rilo Kiley i found was in the melody of "What Sarah Said" when he sings "a prayer we make to father time." that sounds like "panic and throw your own shit at the enemy." in Rilo Kiley's "It's a Hit." listen, it's there. _________________ Soy loco por las Cornballs |

I thought the album was mediocre. I gave it away.
Soul Meets Body and Crooked Teeth are the best songs on there. Funny that they're also the radio singles. |
