Well, the topic is self-explanitory.
1. Chrono Trigger - You cannot not get any better then this game in my opinion, Magus is still etched into my heart as the ultimate badguy. Lavos doesn't even compare to him. Great storyline and creative battle system with awesome visuals to boot; a classic.
2. Mario Bros - Started off with Nintendo and I still have the original copy that had Duck Hunt and Mario on the same cartridge. It is a great game, I wish games like this exsisted instead of all the OMG THE GRAPHIC QUALITY OF XBOX 360 = SEMEN BLAST! games...Yeah.
3. Double Dragon - I have not had so much fun just beating the crap out of pixels for so long. Along with your brother or a close friend or family member this game is pretty solid.
4. Super Metroid - I still dust of my SNES to play this classic to this day, astounding visuals for a SNES game and an equally stunning orchestra of music and sounds, making this a solid title for anyone to have. It does suffer from the Yuna Rule though.
Example: Samus Aran: "All right I'm fully charged and I'm ready to kick some Breakfast Serious ass!"
:She trips over a rock:
:Her powers all fall down a 'conviently placed' sewer drain:
:I die a little on the inside:
5. Dynasty Warriors Series - I've gotta tell you KOEI did a great job with all of these games, added a little more and more into each game they released as it got more popular and what not, most people shy away from these games, but I believe that they are worthy. Also, knowing that I know more about ancient china then the average gamer, its sort of a badge of pride I wear on my sleeve. This series has only a couple of let downs though, its not like Kessen where you can tell everyone how to act, no its just hey you do this you do that and you just go in and fuck everyone else up K? I've just always been eh about that part.
There you are. _________________ Example: Samus Aran: "All right I'm fully charged and I'm ready to kick some Breakfast Serious ass!"

With the rule that every game has to be a different genre, then:
1. Earthbound
2. Deus Ex
3. Ikaruga
4. F-Zero GX
5. Kid Chameleon
and the second best:
1. Chrono Trigger
2. System Shock
3. Tyrian
4. Mario Karts
5. Super Metroid
Cripes forgot the Zelda games... Five isn't enough.
Here's a good one:
1. Bioforge
2. Bioshock (when it's released - this is the sequel to the System Shocks)
3. Biohazard Battle
4. Bioscopia
5. Bionic Commando |

Too many. Practically any mario game = gold. (Melee, bros., Kart, 64, RPG, etc.)
(PC) Team Fortress Classic = Newbie
(PC) Age of Empires series = Regular
(NES) Rygar = Familiar Face
(DC) Sonic Adventure = Veteran
(SNES) Chrono Trigger = Expert _________________ Jon and Justin are smooth criminals and you have been struck by them |

My list changes almost daily, depending on how I'm feeling. I can tell you right now it doesn't include any "Back in the days when they worried more about gameplay instead of flashy graphics" games. There might be a game on the list that has more gameplay than graphics, but it's never the reason for a game being on the list.
Currently, my list stands at (in no real order):
1: Final Fantasy 9, because of the setting. Squaresoft goin' back to its medieval roots sure was pretty. Also, airships. I just like airships.
2: Resident Evil 4 (yeah, try and tell me that previous games were better. You, sir or madam, would be a liar)
3: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (because it was on a Game Boy, the only thing that can truly hold my attention reliably)
[s]CATORCE[/s] 4: Planescape: Torment. For any of the reasons Bill listed in his part of the top 100 video game list, but also because of the crazed Modron with a crossbow. And the Githzerai. With the blade made out of WILLPOWER.
5: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, when you're the little Deku guy. Or a Zora. Or any of the other Mask-based transformations, with their accompanying instruments. I'm just surprised they didn't put in a Gerudo mask. _________________

Just kidding. I'm not that much of an attention whore. (Or am I?) Today, my top five is:
Toejam & Earl
Tony Hawk franchise
Baseball Stars
World of Warcraft
Super Mario Sunshine _________________ And this is a promise, because this is true. This is real. This is Straight Edge.

1. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (PC) - It's a giant playground. Plus I can run it on max settings and it looks sexy.
2. Sonic Adventure 2 (DC) - Such great fun that was completely lost when they started doing Heroes.
3. Starcraft Brood War (PC) - No counterpart, it's still the greatest.
4. Marvel vs Capcom 2 (DC) - I've just bought my 3rd copy (2 on DC, want to play it on Xbox)
5. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - Awesome, I just wish there were more maps. _________________ Burn the land, boil the sea; You cant take the sky from me |

1. Super Smash Bros/Smash Bros. Melee--I just think that this really was the pinnacle of Nintendo's success with creating a "House of Nintendo" game featuring all it's classic stars fighting each other. I ownzed as Mario, Luigi, and Fox McCloud, while my brother held his own with Link, Donkey Kong, and Samus.
2. Resident Evil: Survivor--I know some people who rapidly hate this entry, but whatever. The atmosphere and music still freaks me out when I'm home alone with the stereo loud on it.
3. X-Men Legends--Never before have I been so thoroughly pleased with an RPG as I was with this one starring Marvel's merry mutants. Excellent controls, excellent story, excellent characters.
4. Ken Griffey--My fondest childhood memories center me, my brother, and my cousins playing this game for hours in the summer.
5. Ghostbusters II--Yes, there was a GBII game that Nintendo put out. As a pop culture lemming, I loved the idea of actually controlling each Ghostbuster as you played through the storyline of the movie. _________________

Fuck's sake, I'm probably going to disagree with this whole list tomorrow.
In no particular order:
1. Bionic Commando (NES)
2. Final Fantasy 3 (SNES)
3. Twisted Metal (PS1)
4. Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII (PS2)
5. Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
I would like to have saved a spot for the Nintendo classics that made me the gamer I am today: Mario, Metroid, Zelda... But I couldn't. If that somehow makes my choices less valid, so be it.
All of these games have a special place in my heart, which is why they were chosen over other technically "better" games, or even the ones with sequels that improved upon them.
#1 was the first game I ever beat. It also has the best ending I've ever seen on a NES game. (Yes, Super Mario 2 was pretty impressive and all that, but it didn't have Hitler's exploding face, now did it?)
#2 changed everything about the first genre I loved. Still the best story of any FF game so far. There's nothing about it that wasn't vital or classic.
#3 was the first game I played on the PS1, and it was the first game to give me real, honest 360 degree freedom. My friends and I played it every afternoon for months.
#4 is the absolute pinnacle of my favorite gaming franchise of all time. It took everything I loved about the first five (the fifth entry was never released stateside ), and made it all a billion times better. It may look like a lesson in Chinese history, which it is, but with the customization it offers, it's pretty much a blank page.
#5 was purchsed on the day it came out, because the Gamestop I went into didn't have the game I wanted. Holy fucking crap. I told everyone that would sit still about it for weeks. It's younger brothers have improved on it in dozens of ways, but none of them were the slack-jawed surprise that GTA3 was. _________________

3.Mario 64
2. Mario RPG
1. Either of the N64 Zelda games
and my honorable mentions are Goldeneye and Diddy Kong Racing. _________________ NO WIRE HANGERS!!!!!!! |

My more realistic, moderately depressing list:

2. Final Fantasy VI
3. Final Fantasy VIII
4. Kingdom Hearts
5. Final Fantasy VII _________________

Since the real weak point of the game was the ending, that's probably for the best. _________________

This list changes all the time, not so much the top 3, but 4 and 5 tend to change a bit.
Honorable Mentions: Perfect Dark, No Mercy, Wind Waker (I've still never completed Ocarina, and have yet to play Majora's Mask), and Super Mario All-Stars.
5. Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain! I haven't played a Smackdown game since my PS2 broke and I traded it and all of my games (which were basically just HCtP and Vice City) in for a Gamecube. This is the pinnacle of the series, and my favorite wrestling game ever made. I'd really like to play SDvR2006, because if what people are saying is any indication, this one is right up there with HCtP.
4. Grand Theft Auto 3. Like Bis said, the sequels were better games. They added all kinds of shit that GTA3 didn't have. But GTA3 came out at the same time as SD: Just Bring It and Tony Hawk 3, so I really didn't have the money to be picky. Having played and loved the first two GTAs, I had interest in GTA3, but it was gonna take a backseat to two of my favorite franchises. That was, until a buddy of mine got the game and basically called it the greatest thing he ever played. So I skipped Tony Hawk and got GTA3 instead. I bought it on a Friday afternoon, and basically didn't stop playing until Sunday night.
3. Mario Kart 64. This is by far my favorite racing game of all time. And it beats out Perfect Dark as my favorite multi-player game ever made. There's nothing much more fun that sitting down with 4 friends and playing battle mode, rotating out the last place person.
2. Super Mario 64. To this day, I've never found another 3D platformer that is more fun to play. Also, this was the first game that I ever completed 100%.
1. Super Mario World. They honestly perfected the 2D side-scroller with this game. And I'm a Mario mark, as clearly evident by the list. _________________

In no particular order:
1) Resident Evil 4
2) GTA 3 / Vice City
3) Def Jam Fight for New York
4) Splinter Cell
5) NHL Hockey (EA sports edition)
6) Age of Empires III (it belongs somewhere in there but I cant decide which one to bump) _________________ No one Ever Really Dies. |
