i am super super pumped for Elder Scrolls Oblivion to come out, though i probably wont have much time to devote to it until the summer.

on a personal note, i have noticed that my 3 year old home built computer doesn't meet some of the "minimum requirements" listed on the official website. i was wondering if some wiser-than-i PC gamers can tell me if i'm actually going to need to upgrade to play this game.

OFFICAL WEBSITE SHIT

* Windows XP
* 512MB System RAM
* 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* 128MB Direct3D compatible video card
* and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
* 8x DVD-ROM drive
* 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* DirectX 9.0c (included)

MY SHIT

* Windows XP
* 512MB System RAM
* 1.3 Ghz AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1500+
* Radeon 9200 video card 128MB
* and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
* 16x DVD-ROM drive
* more than 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* nvidia nforce mcp2 ide
* Keyboard, Mouse

basically, the processor is 0.7 Ghz too slow, and i'm unsure if my video and sound cards are going to be good enough. can someone enlighten me? am i gonna have to shell out in order to play this game?

I've got an Athlon 2200+ and I'm not even going to try to run this game.

Morrowind didn't even run that well on the recommended specs, so I would at the least check around to see how well Oblivion is running for people with the minimum setup before you buy it. You're pretty much guaranteed to have to upgrade your CPU, though.

Edit: Also the lowest supported Radeon chipset series is 9500.

Not to crap on you even more, but I've got a 2700+ and a Radeon 9800, and I don't particularly expect Oblivion to run all that well on mine either. But, that said, I imagine it'll manage running it at pretty low detail, I just dislike playing games at too low settings.

You'll pretty much be looking at a new CPU, graphics card, probably motherboard to support the new CPU, and possibly some extra RAM (go for a full gig I'd say) to minimise all the nasty page-swapping you'll most likely get on just 512mb.

So yeah, that's fair bit of cash, sorry.
