The thing I prefer to being an uneducated loser with a crap job to being in school is the fact that I leave work and have no obligations for that evening. When I was in school I just constantly felt like I had to be doing something (or in my case, was avoiding doing something).
That being said, I'll probably go back to school in the spring. West Virginia University at Parkersburg offers bachelor's degrees in business technology and elementary education. Which do you guys think I'd be better at? |

I have been in this boat for three and a half years now. I think I got spoiled in high school because I was in "honors" classes but I never had to do any work outside of school except for the occasional paper or diorama.
Anyway, I worked full-time this summer (and last) and really really enjoyed the freedom of coming home and not having to think about what I didn't get done at work that day. Part of it may be that my current job is really low-stress (because all of my bosses have quit and so there's only 2 people to give me work instead of , but it makes college seem so much more terrible. Do I love Computer Science? Yes. Do I love it enough to spend all day going to class and then all night trying to get a stupid project to work that doesn't even do anything or help anyone? No.
I'm really really looking forward to graduating next spring and having some free time. _________________

I don't have a degree. I quit school after finishing one year (in the middle of my third semester). I now make $18 or so an hour and do no appreciable work. It's reasonable to assume that one day (hopefully within a few years) I will get on staff at the UAW (assuming the UAW still exists ) and make around $30,000 a year more than what I do currently.
I plan on going back to school since I can get a lot of it paid for, but I have little incentive to do so. If I could work at the UAW for the rest of my life, I don't think it would be so bad. |

In 2008 I'll have an English and Film Studies degree and a teaching credential (almost). I'll then work on an emergency credential while I finish up the real thing. L.A. Unified supposedly pays about 45-50 grand a year to emergency credentialed teachers.
Of course, I might get shot.
But I've got to assume just working will be easier than working two jobs and being a full time student. _________________

| elementary education you get summers off. i wish i'd thought of that sooner. i don't know what business technology is but it sounds like it could be outsourced to india. |

I don't want my job outsourced to India Maybe I'll go back to school to become a crazy historian you see on like PBS documentaries. It will take 2-3 more years of school but I like studying obscure subjects. Of course I will have to start speaking with a lisp/funny accent and always have lipstick on my teeth, but it is the price I am willing to pay. _________________

Yeah, but they don't spread your salary out during the year, so you don't get paid during the summer months. _________________

My mom's pay is spread out so she gets it over the summer.
I'm not entirely sure why it matters either way though. You end up with the same amount of money. It's just a matter of setting a budget. _________________ -Mike
