Now Playing 2: The Sequel

Postby That Damn Furry on Wed Jun 14, 2025 6:39 pm

Might as well get this thread started again. So last night I got my old SNES out and discovered after about 100 attempts to play something that it was not in fact broken. Graphical glitching occurring when I turn it on means there's hope, damn it. Another 50 attempts or so and games were working. So now I'm replaying Harvest Moon because that is an awesome game and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

I'm trying my best to finish up Kingdom Hearts II, but am finding it hard because I can't devote six weeks of continuous gameplay to getting through Xemnas' bodily stages. Kefka turning into a giant Christianity statue is one thing, and Kuja growing bird wings or some shit is fine. But after about the 10th or 11th transformation into something illogical (several of which involve a flying robot dragon?), I just gave up. REACTION COMMAND: SUPERFLUITY

TRIANGLE TRIANGLE TRIANGLE

I have really enjoyed the game though, and after that menial task stuff at the beginning the story picked up and even though I understand about 4% of it and am largely motivated by trying to hit Kanga and Roo with a lightning bolt. Word of advice: don't go to the Gamefaqs page for Kingdom Hearts unless you want to see 20 topics about what would happen if you took Kairi to the prom.

The last chance I had to sit down and clock some game time was with Suikoden Tactics. I couldn't be more disappointed with it. There is just so much lost potential here.

I'm still playing Kingdom Hearts 1, trying to find all the stupid puppies.

I'll probably grab KHII when I get paid in a couple days. B, is it true that the gummi ship portions are now a bit more... I dunno, I guess the word would be involved? Like, does getting through them now actually require something more complex than taping down X and going to make a sandwich?

Yeah the gummi ship sections actually require use of your thumbs now. Still not hard. I never upgraded the ship once in the entire week it took me to beat it. Except for Sephiroth 'cause that shits a joke and I only rented the game from Hollywood so I didn't have enough time to make myself good enough to beat him. I think the story was ok after you stop being pinche freaking Roxas, but I still liked the first one better.

The most vital difference is that they no longer suck. It's kind of like playing Panzer Dragoon now. They look a hell of a lot better and they've got a lot more going on. I dare say I actually enjoyed them.

I'm playing ROTK X, I'm new to it, and I'm getting addicted to it. I just became the grand general.

Ok, so I'm playing Resident Evil 4 at like an hour at a time right now, so I'm not as far as I'd like. I'm really surprised by the whole thing, what with the reconstructed controls and the over-the-shoulder camera, and it's taken me a while to get use to. Question, does this at any point actually add the story made in the past five-ish games?

You know, I bought Animal Crossing DS and expected that I would enjoy it and when I finally sat and played it I got really bored. I don't know if I was expecting too much or if I wasn't playing the game to it's full potential or what, but it's really lost on me. I know that some people on here play it and enjoy it so maybe it's just me. I don't know.

Not really. All RE4 does storywise is give Leon what seems like some closure. Still a damn fun game, though.

I would just like to brag about how I completed every damn thing Kingdom Hearts II had to offer. That was exhausting.

I'm going back to Final Fantasy VII right now. I need to regain my love for this game after viewing Advent Children. Boy, did that suck.

I just got KHII. Man, Vivi's hanging out with a bad crowd.
And what's not to like about Advent Children? Unless you were watching it hoping for plot or something, I guess in that case you might be disappointed.

Unless you were watching it hoping for plot

Or decent voice acting.

I just completed New Super Mario Bros, with 3 stars next to my filename now. I enjoyed it as I knew I would, and now I'm going through Super Mario 64 DS. I'm still in limbo with KHII as I made it to the end boss but haven't fought him yet because I wanted to try to get Jiminy's Journal complete. Harder than I thought it would be so now I'm probably just gonna say fuck it and beat the game.

If you watch a dubbed version of anything, you really only have yourself to blame.

I haven't watched Advent Children, and don't really have any plans to any time soon. But I have played Kingdom Hearts II and Mena Suvari is anything to go by then I'd say the voice acting sucks in the movie as well.

Advance Wars DS - Never played it when it came out, so I just bought it the other day. It's pretty cool, and doesn't seem to be as outrageously difficult as the last two.

Big Brain Academy - I like Brain Age, and this is a pretty cool companion to it. Some of the games are hard

FIFA 06 - World Cup has again sparked my interest

Neil: please keep us updated on Advance Wars DS. I've been itching for a fun strategy game (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is one of my favorite GBA games) but failed miserably at Advance Wars on the GBA-- I think I got through like three missions after the training missions and just got completely stuck. If the DS version stays easy throughout the game, I might pick it up.

Also, I thought Big Brain Academy was really cool, but I've already worked my way up to an A (I guess I can try for an A+ or something?) and have at least gold medals in all the practice games. I guess I shouldn't expect it to last all that long, but that was after having it for something like 48 hours.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm on the last mission, and almost have it won. My battery was dying and I had a fairly hard time winning that mission (it requires you build just the right units and put them in just the right place at just the right time or you're screwed) but I turned the tide. I just haven't finished it yet. But like you, I got stuck/frustrated after very few missions in the GBA game, so being already on mission 22 or so says to me that they've lowered the difficulty a bit.

You mean platinum medals on the training games? 8) Golds are hard enough, platinum are ridiculous. And I'm only around a B+, but I've put a lot more time into AW, since I picked them both up on the same day.

yeah, I've got platinums on a handful of them. Some of the requirements for platinum seem so ridiculous (as evidenced by the fact that I get way higher than the gold medal requirement and still don't earn a platinum) that I might not bother earning all of them.

Overall, it's a lot of fun, though. When my girlfriend gets back from her research at Clemson I might have a worthy opponent for the multiplayer mode.
