I'm leaning towards a skeleton

AKA The Halloween Costumes Thread

October begins this weekend, which means several things for me.

1) Raise Zombie Awareness Month (more info at groups.myspace.com/raisezombieawareness)

2) My Birthday (/old)

3) Em'er Eff'ing Halloween (or the best holiday ever)

The Gunslinger is playing at least two Halloween shows, and SundownMotel has suggested that I dress as a shower a la Daniel-san the Karate Kid. As funny as I think it would be to have a giant shower playing guitar at a show, I'm leaning towards dressing as a skeleton. My only problem is that I can't find a skeleton costume that isn't a piece of shit. By piece of shit I mean: glows-in-the-dark, or has big rubber bones, or both.

If anyone has any good leads on costumes, or suggestions for alternatives, I'd appreciate it.

I did however find something for my dog. I spoil her.

I also bought an awesome Frankenstein costume for her which consists of a Frankenstein-faced hat and four doggy wrist bands. HOLY SHIT WRISTBANDS. But it is too small.

I have been buying all the halloween socks and cups I can find. I do this every year, because it's one of the only times I buy socks so I need to get a lot.

For halloween, since Will is in the wheelchair and fees weird going out in public, I decided to make it part of the costume, so I'm gonna be Anna Nicole Smith and he's going to be my old ass husband, complete with an I.V. stand.

As for the skeleton...I'd just screen print my own if I was you, but I'm not, so I don't know.

It is for dogs.

I kinda felt guilty when I bought it, thinking she might be uncomfortable and hate it. But holy cow does she love it. She helped me open the package when I brought it home and gets crazy excited when I bring it out now. She knows its speacial and she knows its just for her. The feet kinda get in the way when she runs, but she LOVES the cape.

And Caitlin. A couple years ago I made a skeleton costume out of a jumpsuit and duct tape, which is pretty sweet. I have a screen printing press that I made as well. I could always go total DIY and cut stencils out and spray paint it. Better yet, you could make me one!

I haven't really thought about it until now. Maybe I'll just put on a black eye mask, grab a volleyball and my Boinks shirt and be a Calvinball player. Not many would get it, but it's easy and funny to me.

I kinda want to be Alice in Wonderland because of the whole kinda my name thing and I love that movie (yes, I know it's a book but I've never read it). Or I've always wanted to be Dorothy ever since I saw Swingers. So apparently I want to wear a blue dress. Or Steve Irwin with a halo and wings, and have a friend dress as a crocodile. I would then yell "CRIKEY" a lot, and run across the room to tackle him. Whoever suggests a stingray instead of a crocodile will be punched.

Matthew Lesko is on the list, too. Ive always wanted that crazy question mark suit, and this would be the perfect time to make it.

Then we have some group outfits, like Sub Zero, Scorpion, and Reptile, and my personal favorite, popular band and singers of such hit songs as "Whip it" and "Whip it"; Devo.

Since I will be about 7 months pregnant on Halloween my choices are limited. I do not want to be a pumpkin, or an M&M as you see most pregnant ladies dressed as, I am way too girly. My plan, until I got pregnant, was to prance around half naked in my Rainbow Brite costume as I did last year. I loved the costume and it cost me $60, I could not see spending that much on a costume and only wear it once.....This year I am going to be a fariy. I bought a little pink maternity dress on eBay and am sewing all kinds of sparkly fabric on it. I am definitely going to get pictures this year, as i don't have any from last year.

My boyfriend does not know what he wants to be but he has asked me to construct him some plate armor. I see lots of cardboard and aluminum foil in my future.

Question: Isn't the point of Halloween that everyone dresses up as something scary? I mean, that's the theme of the holiday, right? Not dress up as pop-culture icons?

It's the only holiday that is an excuse to dress up in a costume. People don't get many opportunities for that. Also, I'm certain people gave up on the costumes having to be scary when they realized that the choices were limited and they weren't scary to begin with.
