Post subject: Pearl Jam's new album coming May 2 |
|
|
I think there's like, two people here who listen to PJ, so this is for them.
From Rolling Stone:
| Quote: |
Pearl Jam will release their eighth, self-titled studio album on May 2nd. Produced by Adam Kasper (Soundgarden), the follow-up to 2002's Riot Act was recorded in Seattle and will be the band's first for J Records.
"A couple of rock songs, a couple of ballads -- it's not rocket science," says Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard about the new disc. But his hopes are high: "It feels like a new opportunity for us. We're proud of the songs, and we think they have a chance to do a little better commercially."
Pearl Jam is the band's most collaborative effort yet: They produced the album together, each member will receive writing credits and for the first time ever guitarist Mike McCready contributes lyrics, to the album closer "Inside Job." Gossard has also contributed two of his own songs, "Parachutes" and "Life Wasted."
The first single, "World Wide Suicide," penned by frontman Eddie Vedder, hits radio March 8th. On the same day, the song -- which Gossard describes as "very punky and Who-ish" -- will be made available as a free download on the band's Web site, pearljam.com.
Pearl Jam, who have sold more than sixty millions albums since their 1991 inception, will launch a spring world tour in support of the album. Details will be announced later this month. |
In other news, I am undecided about the aforementioned World Wide Suicide. (link to mp3 within) It's nice to hear something that isn't folk music, but as someone on a different forum mentioned, his new screeching habit does not suit him. |

I've been listening to that song quite a bit since I downloaded it last night. It reminds of something from Lost Dogs but I'm not sure what. The chorus is my favorite part.
I hope I actually like this album. I tried to convince myself that I liked Riot Act for the longest time but there are actually only about three songs that I like a lot. The rest get a "yeah theyre ok" and a shrug. I never go back and listen to anything other than Thumbing My Way. _________________ them's jokes, boy |

I don't know what happened. I used to LOVE Pearl Jam. L O V E them.
I imagined me loving them now and until I was like 89. I just started tapering off after Vitalogy. I bought that one, but that was the last one. I don't know why. I'm gonna hear that song as soon as the bandwidt allows it again. |

At least buy No Code. That album's pretty much perfect. I think Binaural's pretty great as well, but most people aren't too big on it. _________________ them's jokes, boy |

I've only started listening to them over the past year, and I've only heard two records (Ten and Lost Dogs) and I really like them both. Well, okay, Lost Dogs disc 2 is good. I don't care for the first.
This new single is only vaguely good to me. I could definately do without, but I hold out hope that I will enjoy the new album. And hopefully get to see them on tour if I do. _________________ WAAAOOOOOOOWWWW! |

Super stoked about the PJ album. Ten beats out No Code for me, but only by the slimmest margin. Their new song sounds really radio friendly, so hopefully it will get the play they've deserved but have never gotten after Vitalogy.
At the risk of totally derailing the thread, I'm much more excited about the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album, Stadium Acradium. It was originally slated to be 3 albums released 6 months apart from each other, but they scaled it down to a 2 disk, 25 track album with 13 unreleased tracks presumably going to be released later or as a bonus somewhere down the line. I've read that it will be going back to their earlier funk, but also follow in the more melodic footsteps of By the Way and Californication, so I really don't know what to expect. But Flea said in Rolling Stone it will be the best thing they've ever done, so I'm stewing in anticipation. I think I heard the release date is May 16, so that will be some month. _________________

I listened to Ten again yesterday and the only songs I can really get into are Evenflow, Black, Jeremy, and Release. Oceans when the mood is right. Vitalogy and No Code are the only two albums of which I like every song (songs, I don't like the bullshit stuff on Vitalogy).

Evenflow, Black and Jeremy are about all I can listen to off Ten anymore. The second half of the album was never that strong and Alive has been played on the radio so many Goddamn times it's lost any value it once had. For some reason Jeremy's been played just as much, but it keeps on truckin'.
Other than that, I don't have any particular album I don't like. I've never been as picky as most people with music, or at least with music from artists I like. I rarely skip tracks.
Okay, sometimes I might end Vitalogy one track early. But that's just a time consideration. |

I don't think anything could get me back into Pearl Jam again at this point. _________________

Pearl Jam's going to be playing on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Also: Fuck this god damn tour they're doing. There's no need to play cities two and three times when you're leaving out other important ones. Nashville.
I downloaded the shitty leak about a week ago. World Wide Suicide is probably the worst song on there. Come Back's my favorite song at the moment.

I downloaded the non-shitty leak (the whoops we're not supposed to be selling this yet leak) and it's awesome. This is their best album since.. Well, I need to hear it a few more times before I can properly place it. But it's better than Binaural and Riot Act just after one listen.
And not only that, today I finally found out the real lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter. It all makes sense now. _________________ Without people like Bill, the world might be a better place, but we must have a balance somehow; right? |

To be honest, having gone back and listened to all of their CD's, to me No Code and Yield stand up the best. Binaural is great too. I've just never been as into Ten as others and I really dislike a number of songs on Vs. _________________
