Am I the only one watching it? It's been pretty awesome so far...of course, that may just be due to the fact that THERE IS BASE BALL ON THE TELEVISION OH MY GOD DUDE. _________________ And this is a promise, because this is true. This is real. This is Straight Edge.

It really is excellent, just finished watching the Dominican Republic/ Venezuela game. Playoff intensity baseball in March, instead of split squad Royals/D-Rays games. I really can't wait until the next WBC when the U.S. might start taking it as seriously as other countries. Just watch the Japanese or Koreans or any of the teams in the 2 category play. That's intensity. I mean, 3 of Vlad's cousins die, and he still might be back for the semifinals, but every other player the U.S. asks doesn't even give a reason for declining?
Also, what the hell happened to the D-Train? _________________

Every game I've tried to watch hasn't been televised live. _________________

Yeah, I had that problem for a while. ESPN and ESPN2 usually have the games, even if they don't match up with TiVo listings or what have you. _________________ And this is a promise, because this is true. This is real. This is Straight Edge.

I don't see how something in its first year can already be a classic but hey what do I know. _________________ I GOT IRATE AND FETCHED MY MAGIC MARKER AND WROTE "WORLDS INCORRECT GRANDMOM" ON ALL HER SUNDAY DRESSES

That's our Frank Stallone!
Anyhow, I've been watching a pretty fair amount of it. I've just been disappointed in the performance of the US team. _________________

The Venezuela/Dominican Republic game in San Juan was nuts. Half the fans waved Venezuelan flags; the other half waved Dominican Republic flags. They all went apeshit for ordinary things like foul balls, that is when they weren't fighting, screaming or chanting slogans in Spanish.
It was the best two hours of baseball I've ever seen.
So far, USA has lost to Korea and Canada. They're the next USA Olympic Basketball team.

That's another thing, where are the US fans? The fans from the other countries are treating the whole thing like it's worth a damn (it is). What's the fucking deal? _________________

Other countries have more to prove than the U.S. Korean, Japanese and Cuban players will just about kill themselves out there to prove that baseball in their countries is world class, and it is. That's what I'm enjoying so much about the Classic. If the U.S. and Dominican teams just completely dominated everyone they played while the other teams looked like South Africa, how interesting would it be? I think it's great that Korea and Puerto Rico and these little teams are doing so well. It makes it more competitive, and you can be sure that it will grow the sport in places like China. How angry do you think China got when their team was beat by Taiwan and Japan? If the U.S. gets beat this year, you can bet they'll come back in 5 years with something to prove.

WBC: New twist on revenue sharing?
Agent Scott Boras offers an interesting take on the WBC, saying it amounts to another form of revenue sharing.
"Look at (the U.S.) roster — the top 10 compensated teams are the ones contributing players," he said. "The risk factor is based on the hierarchy of salary. The Yankees lose 1-2-3 (Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon). George (Steinbrenner) is contributing $100 million to the WBC and Kansas City a big zero."
Actually, Rodriguez, Jeter and Damon will earn a combined $59 million this season, while the Royals have three players remaining in the tournament — pitcher Elmer Dessens and infielder Benji Gil are playing for Mexico, second baseman Ruben Gotay for Puerto Rico.
And finally ...
The best line on the WBC comes from Boras, who frets over the risk of injury with an estimated 25 of his clients playing in the tournament, many of them pitchers:
"For me, it's like watching 'Fear Factor.'" |
God Boras is a douchebag. _________________

The United States is eliminated today if:
Japan wins and scores less than 7 runs.
Japan wins and lets up less than 8 runs.
I admit it's been a lot better than I first imagined it to be. Ortiz's latest tater is still echoing in my head. _________________
