I heard a song by The Slits on the radio and bought their album, and it is wonderful.

I'm a little late to the party - but years ago when Magnolia came out I discovered this artist - and then totally forgot about her until recently:

Aimee Mann.

Its calm, its nice...good stuff, espically if you have ovaries.

This year I started listening to We are Scientists and Death Cab for Cutie.

We are Scientists are a very good live band. I bought their latest album an enjoy it.

Death Cab for Cutie is not bad. I guess their style is too soft for me. I bought and gave their latest album to my sister. Though, I have tickets to see them in concert in April.

This may sound aweful, but I just discovered Velvet Underground. Brilliant band, I'm just taking it all in right now.

I think The Velvet Underground is one of the most underrated bands ever. Oh! Sweet Nuthin' was in my head all day.

Nope, totally Breakfast Serious. Whenever I tell people I like them, 95% of the time, the person has either never heard of them or has heard of them but never heard their stuff. I'm not talking about people on this board. But if you guys live somewhere where there's other people who know about The Velvet Underground, then that's awesome, because I've never met another fan of them. Also, if you're saying that you don't like The Velvet Underground, then that's fine, we've already established that I have one of the oddest tastes in music in these forums.

On behalf of B and myself, I'd just like to point out that that's not what underrated means.

To rate too low, value under what it actually is. It doesn't mean "no one else has ever heard of them."

Yeah, yeah, joyless sack of crap, I know.

I define underrated as something which doesn't garner the accolade it deserves. Which could come about as a result of being criminally underplayed/unheard.

Well I think the issue here is that everyone ever has heard of the Velvet Underground and also they are among probably the top five most acclaimed/influential bands ever.

But dude...topic?
I just went to this show where the very first band blew me away in their live performance, and I bought a CD. By far the best small venue show I've seen, the way these guys handle themselves is superb. They are called Blackeyed Katy from Valdosta, Georgia, and they are some kind of cross pollination of the Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam. The recordings are good, but the live show is spectacular, and I say that having watched them suffer through an almost empty house.

I've only just discovered Sigur Ros' Takk. Listening to it at the moment and I think it's very pretty. I like it a lot.

Also, Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah. Saw them on Letterman recently. Got their album but haven't listened to it yet.

Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! is just the Arcade Fire for people who don't really like music.
