I bought the Bayside self-titled and I'm very happy with it. I haven't been one to get behind a specific genre, though I used to claim it was punk rock in the 8th grade. But among my taste in music the bands I can get most behind these days play this kinda gloom punk stuff. Honestly, this album kicks ass.

I also got the Bouncing Souls live double disc but of course that is fucking incredible. I can't wait to see them at Warped Tour again.

Bayside has one of my favorite straight edge songs ever, or at least anti-drinking. "Masterpiece" = yes.

Also, "Friends Forever" was a pretty great song.

Picked up saturday morin's greatest hits in a three dollar bend.
It's got a whole bunch of semi famous mid nighties alternative bands doing covers of cartoon them songs,.

Worth the price if for no other reason than a7 minute version of the hong kong phooey them song by sublime. Also, my two year old nephew has now gotten into the Ramones.

I cannot keep a copy of that CD. Two have been stolen (or "borrowed without asking" according to a certain ex-friend of mine), and one has literally been shattered into dozens of pieces. I really like the thing, but it's hard to justify purchasing it again after such a legacy.

"Waiter: 'You Vulture!'" by Portugal. The Man

Gay name. Gay title. Decent CD.

It's kind of like Circa Survive, but more chill.

I'd expect you to give it a higher grade, considering it sounds exactly like Deloused in the Comatorium, only without purposely trying to confuse the fuck out of everyone.

Also, Nic Newsham.

In conclusion, I cannot fucking wait to see Gatsbys American Dream and Portugal. The Man on tour this summer.

It sounds nothing like Deloused.

Well, maybe if Deloused was covered by the Kidz Bop kids. This is just a dumbed down version. Less talent.

The musicians are less talented. Dumbed down isn't quite accurate, since it's not like they're playing below their best to accomodate a wider audience. They're doing their best, it's just not as good as The Mars Volta.

I would argue that Portugal's music is remarkably more progressive than TMV's is.

Just because they don't interstice their songs with 45 minutes of a microphone sitting betwen a mayonnaise jar of angry bees and a smoothie being made doesn't make them less talented.

Not the ambient noises. The guitars. There's no way you're telling me that the guy from PTM is better than Omar Rodriguez.

I certainly wouldn't say that Omar makes anyone in PTM look like someone from Kidz Bop.

Islands - "Return to the Sea"

For those who don't know, Islands is compsed of two of the three members of The Unicorns. Apparently, whoever that one guy was that made The Unicorns fun is the one member not in Islands.

Pretty sure it's "shyouw shyouw" or, more simply "shoe shoe." Daniel Chase Tenenbaum says zoozoo, but he's from Kentuck, so y'know.

No band has a worse name than !!!.

They combine my hatred for unnecessary punctuation marks in band names with the sheer enmity I have for pretension.
