LeBron squares off against Michael JordanThere has been a lot of talk since The King has entered the NBA as to if he'll be the next Jordan.... or even better than His Airness. Personally when it comes to who's the more accomplished, all around better basketball player this has to go hands down to Michael Jordan. Jordan never lost a finals.. LeBron has lost 3. However, the argument here is that LeBron has never had a support staff around him like Jordan had. LeBron doesn't have one of the greatest defenders ever in Pippen, nor does he have one of the greatest rebounders ever in Rodman, nor does he have the clutch supporters such a Kukoc, Kerr, Paxton, etc... Jordan may have been the dominant factor on that team but that team fit perfectly together and those support players were many the reason why Jordan had such a success when it came to the playoffs. Many people forget that the Bulls, even with Jordan retired , went to the conference finals where they would eventually lost to the Knicks... So this team was no pushover even without Jordan. The Cavs without LeBron... One of the worst teams in the NBA... Just look at the Miami Heat this year.. in a terrible Eastern Conference they couldn't even manage a playoff spot without LeBron. LeBron has always struggled with his supporting cast whether it was Mo Williams bricking threes when it mattered most of Chris Bosh going 1-16 in a meaningful playoff game.
However, again, this is all besides the point of my topic of conversation. Sure Jordan has the rings, but who's to say LeBron won't have 6 before he hangs it up. The one obvious thing is that it's very Iikely LeBron will end up with more MVP's than Jordan... and some of Jordan's records are already starting to fall to LeBron like the record LeBron just took tonight from Jordan for point playoff games with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. LeBron will never be the next Jordan... However he is definitely on his way to being the first LeBron.
This brings me to the topic of my article.. it's not who's the better basketball player (Jordan), or who's more clutch (Jordan), or who's the better team player (LeBron) I'm here to talk about who would simply win a game of one on one if LeBron and Jordan squared up both in their primes. The answer to this question is clearly LeBron... Anyone who says Jordan is just being a hater to LeBron. Jordan was 6'6 225 where as LeBron is 6'9 265lbs. That's 40 pounds and 3 inches on Jordan. Jordan would have a hard time just being able to keep that freight train in front of him. Also LeBron is clearly the better rebounder. Jordan would have to be making everything he through up because LeBron would practically get every board. LeBron could simply out physical Jordan and wear him down based on size alone.
Jordan may have been the best figuring out matchups and how to exploit them, however LeBron is a perennial defender. There is no figuring him out. He's longer, tougher, and stronger and therefore I have to go with the fact that LeBron would win in a game of 1v1. Zachary Mcphail, the CEO of RealBookies.com agreed saying that if he was a betting man... and he is... that LeBron would win based on physical strength and nothing else. Now if the Bulls faced off against the Cavs.. then that's another story.. I do believe the NBA is bigger, and faster then they were back in Jordan's time but still that Bulls team role players would clearly outshine the Cavs supporting cast.. However the Bulls would have to get used to the modern day flopping factor and the slightly longer 3 pointer.
All in all, in a game strictly in a 1 on 1 setting I clearly think LeBron James would take Jordan. Don't agree with me? Feel free to start the conversation below.
