The Chiefs lost on Sunday, but I woke up Monday morning and the world
had not ended. People were out shoveling snow from the sidewalks.
Traffic was moving as usual. A bunch of black kids sat at the
corner listening to rap music. And I thought, "Maybe football
isn't what it's all about after all." Then the bag of groceries I
was carrying broke open, and Brett Favre showed up and said, "You
shoulda double-bagged that." Then I said, "WELL YOUR DAD SHOULDN'T
HAVE DRIVEN HIS CAR INTO A TREE." And he flashed me a weep.
It was a knowing weep.
