Coming home late from a bar or a friend's house and completely forgetting that you have half of a chicken cutlet grinder sitting in the fridge waiting for you.

Oh man, Biz... after closing my neighborhood bar I would get a quesadilla from the mexican place on the way home. Their food was terrible unless you were drunk, in which case it was the best thing you had ever eaten.

Also, Folby, I don't think we've ever discussed it, but I've oft times fantasized about puting on a new pair of socks and a new undershirt every day.

That's fine living!

The part that makes it hapiness for me is the forgetting that it was there in the first place. You're a little faded and bumping around trying to think of what will be quick and easy and if you should really bother at all or just go to bed, then

there

it

is

Plantin' myself squarely in the new socks camp and agreeing with every word Folby said. The funny thing is, when you're young "aw socks for christmas" is a big joke. Now I ask for them and get bummed when I don't get them.

Yeah, totally. It also happens when you are hungover or sick or just really hungry.

Finishing small personal projects. Like the 100 Word Stories. Completing them really made me happy.

Pulp the band. Somehow, they always make me so happy and I always forget that they do. There's about a million songs I haven't listened to by them, but they're so long that I never listen to more than 5 or 6 new ones at a time.

For real, I LOVE this band.

When someone asks for five hundred grams of ham or whatever (I work at a supermarket deli) and I take a random amount and weigh it and it's exactly correct.

Also when I get just the right amount of sleep, like I did last night. Was tossing and turning until 3 am because I have a bad cold, but then woke up at 8.15 and felt completely rested.

Driving in the springtime, windows down, great song on the stereo, with the right temperature where you're not too hot, and it's not too windy - and everything is, just for a small while, perfect.

I'm totally with you there. I used to work at a hardware store where a lot of things were sold by weight.

I'm a big "small things" person, because i've found that the big things don't come around nearly enough.

I'd have to say current tops on the list is:

When a middle aged man wearing perfectly round black framed glasses, salt and pepper goatee and ponytail, solid purple shirt, and a fanny pack walks out of the library, brandishes a hard boiled egg, breaks it on a stone pillar, and shoots it straight, in one bite.

i'm not sure this will ever happen again, but man, it made me all kinds of happy.

Mention it frequently around November, and someone will get you many, many socks for Christmas. The only reason I did not go crazy this past January was fresh socks every morning.

Okay, here's a great one which I haven't done since early highschool:

You're sick for the day, not so much that you feel like crap and are miserable, but enough to confine you to the house. And you spend the day on the couch, under a doona, watching children's programs even though you're too old for them.

Man I miss that. I was sick this morning so I skipped a university tute, but instead of watching TV I was on the Internet talking to you jerks.

When I was a kid, my cousin and I would cut out the comic strips and movie adverts from the newspaper. He was older and could kick my ass so he always got first choice. One sunday I woke up extra early and cut out a huge Spaceballs ad. He was so pissed, it was great.

It makes me happy because we all do it and we all know we do it and we should be reminded once in a while that we're all pretty much the same. Same with hubcaps propped up on the side of the road for whoever lost them in the first place. Anonymous and thankless acts like that, however simple, make me happy.

petting stray cats

it is like petting regular cats except their lives are harder and more bereft of human affection so when i see a cat that is all raggedy and covered in ticks and little clots of fur purring and nuzzling my hand that is pretty great

a year ago i was playing around with this cat on the street, who wasn't a stray, and was very very nice. it was rubbing my knee so hard with its head that the head slipped and it fell, and it did a complete 180, thought that i was trying to hurt it or something, and bit the shit out of my hand. bleeding like crazy, i had a scar for months. i still pet stray cats though.
