Random Music Video Discussion Thread

Oh look an obscure reference to a band only four people like is in the header of the music forum. How novel and unexpected.

If you work at a video store, you hear it more than you'd like.

The best part of Pick Up Man is the line "I met all my wives in traffic jams." He spends the entire song boastfully talking about his truck and how much pussy it has gotten him, and then he drops this little nugget about how his relationships usually end in sadness, possibly because the love of a truck cannot be sustained.

You will hear this a lot if you spend time with teenagers and X usually equals their current age. I can't tell you the number of times I've had someone basically say, "Why would I see a movie older than me?"

Another video that was instrumental in me being a terrified little kid, "Torture" by the Jacksons.

I would LOVE to make a big budget film based on Torture. S&M, keytars, a guy with an eyeball on his hand like so much Vampire Hunter D, glittery forcefields, mysterious spider ladies and getting trapped inside a giant rubber.

I love the really over-the-top 80s videos like this one. Not enough artists use the kitchen sink approach at presenting their music these days.

maybe you guys need an actual good video to start talking, inspired by a comment in the PGA forum

The line about the grape in a fruit fight is one of my favorite Jay Z lyrics of all time, because it is one of four times in his career Jay didn't start a line by telling you about his nicknames and end it with product placement.

My favorite line is "Well you were doing 55 in a 54" because where is he driving where the speed limit is 54 mph?

For every somewhat interesting thing that Jay Z does, he makes sure to do something to piss me off too. Hangin out with that ZZ Top lookin guy is coo, but dogfights make me fucking BRISTLE. I really like the shot of police mugshot photos when he says the "paparazzi" line, but the literal interpretations of most of the rest of the lyrics just make me yawn.

I prefer Ice-T's ridiculously misogynistic original.

Best thing is that the half of the video that isn't THINGS HAPPENING SMASH CUT TO OTHER THINGS HAPPENING is just Jay-Z hanging out with Rick fuckin Rubin.

Which makes it even more ridiculous.

This song/video is awesome but yeah, I have no idea why that's in there.

You're just bobbing your head along to this kickass beat and well-produced video and then oh hey animal abuse, welp,

It's in there because this video is targeted, at least in part, at a culture that condones (and perhaps even celebrates) such activity.

I'm in college now (have I brought that up yet I don't think I have!!!) and one of my first sociology classes was half-devoted to this song. I tried to look studious as everyone was listening to it.

Anyway, Jay-Z seems to do the SMASH CUT SMASH CUT MOTHERFUCKING SMASH CUT thing every now and again.

This video debuted on New Years Eve, I was at a party and started yelling out every thing they cut to. It got tough, people joined me. Times were had.

I know, right? For the longest time my biggest fear was "putting my arm into a giant eyeball."

I also like that "The Jacksons" could get Michael on the song, but not in the video.
