Good Music In 2010: Because Classic Rock Ain't All That!

Oh look an obscure reference to a band only four people like is in the header of the music forum. How novel and unexpected.

Ted Leo involves himself with Paul F Tompkins, Patrick Stickles, and John Hodgman and it makes me laugh.

This whole entire album is dreadful. It made me lock myself in the closet and almost puke. If I ever hear any of these songs ever again I will drive a stake through the singer's heart and dance the "Tango" on his skull.

"Fuck You" by Cee-Lo Green

Oh my god, song of the year.

Ooh on the topic of Cee-Lo, his cover of Band of Horses' "No One's Gonna Love you" is incroyable.

tim kasher of cursive and the good life has a solo album coming out next month and the lead single "cold love" is so far removed from anything he's done before. it sounds like tim kasher singing guest vocals for some weird amalgamate of a track composed by sufjan stevens and the arcade fire. i'm really excited for the full-length.

I may be the only person on Planet Earth (in my head, those two words are always said with a smug air of superiority by Sigourney Weaver) who thinks that, when compared side-by-side from first album to last album, The Good Life is better than Cursive. Come on, besides Ugly Organ (which trumps everything he's ever done), what's so good about Cursive? Besides, The Good Life is a great band name.

I think Help Wanted Nights and Happy Hollow work well as sister albums, but I enjoy the subjects and themes explored on Happy Hollow more. Bad Sects and At Conception are really bold concepts and I think Tim handled both with a level of a maturity that most songwriters wouldn't have been able to pull off.

I also really love Cursive's abrasive pre-Burst & Bloom sound and I really shouldn't have to explain why the vocal crescendo on a track like Lament of Pretty Baby is so good.

As a rebuttal, I would like to pose that the following is the best opening line to any song, let alone any album, ever:

"The first time that I met her I was throwing up in the ladies room stall. She asked me if I needed anything, I said 'I think I spilled my drink'."

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love the Good Life. But my proclivity toward Cursive comes down to Strong Nostalgic Life Associations. I'd probably put Album of the Year as my third favorite Kasher album behind Happy Hollow and Ugly Organ, however.
