Bill's musical tastes - the thread

50% of the bands discussed in this thread have recorded at least one song about having a magical ticket that lets them go anywhere and do anything. Guaranteed.

Haha, now that you mention it.

Bill has effectively told me all my bands are terrible, so now I'm just asking about bands my friends listen to.

Pretty much the only bands I really really like that haven't been named to my recollection:

Harry Nilsson
Cat Stevens
My Bloody Valentine
Miles Davis
Each of the solo Beatles
Badfinger
Sly And The Family Stone
John Coltrane
Sonic Youth

Pavement sounds like the name of a nu metal band that is trying to be the next Staind it should not be this

Anyway this is really typical really boring indie rock stuff

Randy Jones wrote:sonic youth

Too much focus on making noise, not enough focus on making decent music. Kool Thing is supposed to be their most "accessible" song and it's still not very good

Rusty Cooledge v2 wrote:Animal Collective

You can't tell me anyone actually chooses to listen to this

Banshee Beat

Um.. this is just a song by Animal Collective

Fiery Furnaces

This is not very good

I don't have anything against this, I guess, but it's not very interesting. Nothing against it musically, anyway -- they look Goddamn retarded.

The 69 Eyes

I'm going to assume this is the same friend who listens to HIM

Anyway this is also goofy

Sahara Hotnights

This all-girl powerpop stuff sounds so '80s. I was never big on the Bangles or the Go-Gos either.

Dimmu Borgir

This is so Goddamn silly and yet I can find it entertaining in a way, and the music isn't bad for what it is. The problem is that the sound gets old after like two songs.

Cradle of Filth

These vocals are even worse and the music isn't as good

So this is crap

Children of Bodem

Christ this stuff all sounds the same

The Knives

God this sucks

Fireball Ministry

Boy these guys really want to be Sabbath huh

Keep trying fellas

Polyphonic Spree

This is certainly... different. It's too happy touchy-feely though. Most of it sounds like it comes from the soundtrack to a musical.

Blacklabel Society

What else can I say but this is crap

There are three different bands called X, you need to clarify

The Slits

This is bad

The Raincoats

I feel with each band we are drifting farther and farther away from actual music

Le Tigre

I don't like this

Metal Hearts

This almost wants to be good but there's something just not quite right.

Go Betty Go

God what is with the chick rock

I do not want this

Rusty Cooledge v2 wrote:Tsunami Bomb

Not bad but not really my thing

Alex wrote:The Epoxies

A YouTube video description called them "new wave punk" and I think that's why they don't appeal to me

blacktoothgrin wrote:my guitar teacher gave me some van der graff generator, what do you think of those guys

Sounded like a lot of wankery to me

I also didn't hear a lot of guitar so I dunno why your teacher gave that to you

I actually plan on using this research to establish the first empirical standard of music quality.

But it's not even about me, why would anyone care about any one person's opinion on dozens of random bands

And care enough to put it in a spreadsheet
