Bill's musical tastes - the thread

50% of the bands discussed in this thread have recorded at least one song about having a magical ticket that lets them go anywhere and do anything. Guaranteed.

plus they don't really play as a band anymore... i saw them live 6ish years ago and it was basically just five guys playing a vaguely similar song on the same surface about 20 feet from each other. i wouldn't say it's the worst $75 i've ever spent, but it's certainly not on the list of the best.

Do Dave and Tim Reynolds still play their solo shows every once in a while? I enjoy those infinitey more than any group efforts I listened to.

They are pretty okay

The usual unremarkable band that has one hit and then disappears

slayer

I have no interest in this

s...did we already do stone temple pilots

Sort of, since it kind of kicked off the thread, but I don't think anyone actually asked about it. Anyway I obviously really like them but like the Chili Peppers I find myself listening to their ballad and mid-tempo stuff more often than the harder rock (not that that isn't fun too). Which is another reason I never went for Velvet Revolver.

guns and roses also

oh hey speaking of

In their era, they were certainly better than fucking Whitesnake and Ratt. But in general I'm not big on '80s rock plus their singles have been played to death.

I can appreciate it but it's not the sort of thing I would choose to listen to

The Squirrel Nut Zippers

I had a roommate who listened to a lot of the modern swing bands like this. For reasons I can't explain, none of it bothers me and I can even like some of it. Though if we're going down this road, I'd just as soon it be the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

The Skatalites

This is not my scene I do not own a bong

Gogol Bordello

I was about to give you shit for making me listen to a "Gypsy punk band" but it's actually kind of interesting. Not the sort of thing I would listen to, but at least it's different.

Mahala Raï Banda

This is more traditional and less interesting

Vic Ruggiero

You are just typing random groups of consonants and vowels now aren't you

Anyway most of this isn't that great

I guess I don't hate it, I just don't like it very much

I couldn't recall these songs five seconds after listening to them. Rather bland.

gorky's zygotic mynci

The vocals really suck, and the trend of going from soft to mess of noise in every song doesn't work

the lucksmiths

Too poppy, too Australian

the beta band

A lot of this sounds like old one hit British invasion bands you'd hear on oldies radio. How can you hear Out-Side and not think of (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone. (I realize the Monkees were not a British invasion band but they were trying to be so work with me here)

Anyway if I wanted to listen to that I would just listen to actual oldies bands

guitar wolf

Hey guys look if I turn the distortion up high enough I can play whatever and it doesn't matter because it will all sound like the same crap

whoops I made Zeitgeist

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

how could two people be aware of this band's existence much less ask about it

Kanye West

He can make some good songs but I think he's getting a little overhyped and overexposed.
