Paranormal Activity

Postby Hirsby » Sun Oct 18, 2025 2:04 pm

Anyone else see this over the weekend? Scary as fuck. Best horror movie I've seen in years.

And, horror aside, the actress playing Katie was gorgeous.
Michael Bay is a shit director but a fascinating man. He slapped Ben Affleck and told him to shut the fuck up after he pointed out that it would be easier to teach astronauts how to drill then drillers how to go into space.

mmmmmmm I really didn't enjoy the ending. The couple of frights right near the end seemed like they were there for jump scares only, so the 14-year-olds in my theater would go "It's scary!" instead of "It's gay!" because apparently disturbing and unsettling without someone popping up in your face is never frightening.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and wasn't scared at all. I went in with the preconception that it wouldn't scare me (scariest movie of all time? we'll see about that heh) which probably didn't help matters. Since there were only three of us watching it, about halfway through I asked "Am I the only one not scared yet?" which prompted us to talk the rest of the movie.

Had I watched it by myself, I would have been pretty creeped out by the end because I would have let the suspense build.

I went in with two friends calling it "the scariest movie [they've] ever seen," so I was trying to keep my expectations neutral, but I was biased.

Overall I thought it was really great. Pretty scary and creepy, and at some points very scary, but not all the way through. I never got extremely freaked out by it except for maybe the 'look into the camera' towards the end. But three of the four other guys I was watching with were quivering masses of goop by the third act. One of them literally would not watch the majority of the night scenes and instead opted to look at me and ask what was happening, or else whisper my nickname aloud to nobody in particular just to hear his own voice. "Holy shit", was a popular one from down the row.

Overall, I enjoyed the shit out of it, but I'm fairly positive I've been much more scared by other movies. I think a lot of that had to do witht he fact that I was only invested in the girl's well being. Her boyfriend was just such an asshole about everything.

This whole entire album is dreadful. It made me lock myself in the closet and almost puke. If I ever hear any of these songs ever again I will drive a stake through the singer's heart and dance the "Tango" on his skull.

i get what you're saying in an "AWWWWW MAN THEY AINT EVEN SHOWN THE DANG WITCH" sense, but in 2009 its kinda hard to avoid a media blitz like the one paranormal activity is receiving. its the blair witch THEY ONLY SPENT $10 ON FILM AND GATORADE hype, except worse because we're all on the Internet every day now. how can you NOT go into this without at least having the thought of "this can't possibly justify the hype" mentality?
Once you know you won't impress you'll find that being nice is nice for its own sake.

Even using "scariest movie of all time" in any promotion is pretty much demanding people to make a judgment call before going into the theater. It's a double edge sword. I wouldn't have even bothered watching it without that tagline but it made me biased against it.

But I assume B said that to mock me for saying maybe I should have allowed the suspence to build instead of ruining it for everyone by talking.

I'm pretty sure the worst way to go into seeing Paranormal Activity is holding a ticket that you paid money for on purpose.

The worst way to see Paranormal Activity is being completely blind and deaf.

OR IS IT?
