The ending was pretty good and it had a strong set of characters, but yeah. It would've been more interesting if they hadn't tried so hard to make Azaria a douche.

Watched The Hammer a few hours ago. Another disappointing movie, just super flat.

I really liked Dark City but I don't really have much to say about it (in a bad way). It looks really pretty and it's really interesting (though I probably would've liked it more if I hadn't already seen City of Lost Children) but the script is a bit too base and revealing I think. It could've been as good as Blade Runner if it didn't have all these overt conversations about its main theme (existence of the soul, experience vs intuition etc), (and also if it didn't try to use so much CGI before CGI was decent looking). I kind of had the same problem with Elephant Man, where Anthony Hopkins kind of stares at the screen and asks "am I a good man or a bad man?" while that question was inherent already. It's not fun when a movie actually confronts these kinds of things but doesn't really let you think/talk about them on your own.

Also Rufus Sewell as the main character is pretty forgettable, and that character was the least interesting.

But other than that it's fun!

Just finished watching High Fidelity. I love this movie more and more every time I watch it. John Cusack and Jack Black will never be better than they are in this.

I watched High Fidelity for the first time recently and I now consider it to be one of my favourite movies. Really gets the idea of "likeable dickhead" down to a tee, especially when one of his old girlfriends breaks down in tears explaining that she pretty much got raped because he left her and he pretty much goes "Oh yeah, I dumped her! Awesome!"

Grandma's Boy is about 20 times better than I thought it would be. Doesn't have much in the way of plot or story (and that there is was pretty predictable), but it was some funny stuff. Linda Cardinelli is adorable, the stuff about Grandma's friend being a groupie to various early Hollywood stars was gold, and hey, even a random Kevin Nash cameo!

lol at the board filter for my original statement about what the old lady did with Charlie Chaplin
Michael Bay is a shit director but a fascinating man. He slapped Ben Affleck and told him to shut the fuck up after he pointed out that it would be easier to teach astronauts how to drill then drillers how to go into space.

I, too went in with really low expectations for Grandma's Boy and came out liking it way more than I ever expected. I also fucking love Nick Swardson.
