I've always thought the Beatles were strongest during Rubber Soul and Revolver, when they were still making straight-forward pop songs, but occasionally experimented.

It's also why The Bends is my favorite Radiohead album, even if it's not as good as OK Computer.

Beatle covers almost always stink. There are probably fewer than five that even come close to the original. Twist and Shout is the only one that is better.

The non-original half of With the Beatles would like to have a word with you.

Till There Was You - Okay
Please Mister Postman - Good, but the original is way better
Roll Over Beethoven - I uniformly hate all Chuck Berry covers by any band. Original was uninteresting by Berry standards.
You Really Got A Hold On Me - Good, but the original is way way better
Devil In Her Heart - Okay, but original is slightly better
Money (That's What I Want) - I stand corrected on this one. It is equal to the original maybe better.

The problem here is that you're comparing them all to the originals, many of which were already really great songs. They don't have to be better than the original to still be really good.

I read the end of this sentence as "so far" instead of "by far" and I was like "uh Terry Cheesecake I have some very bad news for you"

I'm really posting to remind people of the Past Masters and Anthologies. The Beatles discography on Wikipedia doesn't list them, or Magical Mystery Tour, as prominently as their regular catalogue.

Right, this is important. There are a lot of huge songs that were only released as singles, I just included the album listing so people wouldn't have to read a huge wall of text.

I am slightly harder on them because they are covers which is unfair. Being a cover doesn't necessarily mean the song is bad, but I think The Beatles have done better stuff than their covers. I'll be kind of surprised if any covers make my top 25.

I don't know what it is about Chuck Berry, but every time I hear a cover of his work, I realize how great his version was. It has energy and Harrison's vocals are well done. The song simply doesn't work on me even though it's practically an exact reproduction. Also, Chuck Berry has done a lot of stuff much better than Roll Over Beethoven.

My List is at 50 or 60 right now. I am paring down today and ranking tomorrow. List will be in by the weekend.

So, based on how many lists I've received so far and the response in this thread, this is definitely going to be a full, 50-song list. I've been using the Holiday Songs list as a precedent, as it has the fewest amount of lists and this one is definitely going to hit 20 lists, at least. So that's cool, but it'd still be even cooler still to get in as many lists as we have Beatles fans. I think in a day or two I'll be annoying and post a thread in the main forum as a reminder I guess.

So far, only one list has been less than 20 songs. I've gotten a 24 and maybe a couple 20's but for the most part they've all been 25's, which is pretty sweet. I'm excited for the list, so big thanks everyone who listed/is listing. 8)

What makes me most excited about this list is that I probably won't be able to get mad at the results. I had such a hard time narrowing it down to 25 and ranking them. If half my list doesn't make it, I'll still be glad that something I wanted to include made it. Unless something pointless like Flying or Sea of Holes makes it, I think I'll be fine with the results.

I just went down the Wiki article and made a good top 25. I like how it turned out, but it got a bit fuzzy at the bottom.

The bad news is that my AC adapter crapped out and I can't do anything until the new one arrives, so I won't be able to start the LoS on time. The good news is that you have extra time to get your list in if you haven't done so! Hooray!!
