tonight's episode ended with a couple of lame moments that deflated the power of a pretty cool moment and one great moment. jack's interrogation of graham was awesome, the best thing they've done so far this season. i also liked wayne pwning lennox. however, the unsurprising surprise of morris being the engineer and jack's dad being in on the plot was pretty disappointing (although i did like the scene where he kills graham.)

The Morris thing has potential since they didn't go down the obvious "HE WAS IN CAHOOTS THE WHOLE TIME" road. I knew Papa Bauer was fit for betrayal once he asked Jack "for a few minutes."

Oh, and Jack screaming at his brother was amazing. I couldn't sit down while watching it, so I stood up and started jumping up and down.

It was pretty clear that Morris was going to be the engineer. I was hoping that they'd get the picture before Morris left, and they'd send him off knowing he'd lead them to the terrorists. It would have been more interesting to see Morris make that sacrifice as opposed to "oh no they got me!"

Ridiculous but brilliant.

That'll do Graem, that'll do.

Anyone who spells their name like that deserves to die.

I really liked the first four episodes this season, but since then, I just kinda feel like it's been getting overwhelmingly dumb. The Graem dynamic had potential and they cut it short, the Walid storyline got stupid fast, and I think making Jack's dad the bad guy just doesn't work, not to mention it being a rehash of last season's father figure/Jack face-off. Plus everyone just seemed to quickly forget Graem's ostensible attempted parricide/fratricide, and then when the reveal came, Phillip's attempted murder of one son and successful murder of another seemed to be taken kind of lightly. And the Jack/Graem's wife and son storyline is pretty terrible. And why does Jack come from a downright evil family?

Right now, the most compelling storyline to me is the civil liberties debate going on in the White House, but even that looks like it might turn into the asshole vice president (albeit one played by king of men Powers Boothe) trying to usurp authority, which would make this the third season where something along those lines was going on. I'm also realizing that D.B. Woodside is not a very good actor.

I just hope the season turns around quick, because since the first four episodes, I haven't been that impressed.

What I don't understand is how the hell Wayne, assumedly a liberal Democrat, manages to pack his Cabinet with neocons. Most strangely, why would he appoint Jesse Helms as his running mate? If you look back at the four developed Vice Presidents in the show's history (Prescott, Logan, Gardner, Powers Boothe), all except Logan have clearly been established as having borderline nefarious agendas of their own. The one who didn't do so as Vice President, Logan, later did so as President. I'm starting to appreciate Wayne more than I used to (though he's clearly been acted differently this season, almost to a fault), but the storyline's lack of logic keeps me from appreciating it fully.

The continued theme of villains hiding their evil allegiance from Jack and opting not to kill him, only to try to kill him later, is getting really tired too. This season has had plenty of great moments, but as a whole the last three episodes have really put the credibility of the season so far in jeopardy.

I was really disappointed with this episode, and I agree that the last three episodes have really been sub-par. The uber-facists in Palmer's administration, the Bond villain-esque reveal of Jack's father's evil plot, and Morris being the engineer all really brought the whole thing down for me.

I'm giving the show one more week to keep me interested. If the next episode isn't considerably better than the previous few, I'm just gonna start watching Heroes and downloading 24.

Oh, and seriously... Jack needs to kill a bunch of motherfuckers. Post haste.
