everyone everywhere should at some point in their life drive to the beach listening to ska on a muggy hot day with the window down sipping drive through lemonade with your swimming gear on, the smell of sunblock in your nostrils and some friends in tow. the merits of ska are plentiful, even if it's got a shameful side.

Chuggin' down a coca-cola, s'pee, you walk up to the turnstile, the king of all you survey. The kid workin' the ride throws you a nod, you flash him your pink all day bracelet and a smile 'ka ching' you think to yourself knowingly. "Not this time buddy". A little kid ahead of you seems to be a little bit scared, you flash him and his mom a smile 'nothin' to worry about....I'm a vet." last day of school...toes tappin' like a bosstones drum solo as you watch the second hand tick down its final breaths. teach is dronin' on in slow-mo, but you're a million miles away, smackdab in the middle of less than jake's horn section recording a secret track for their new disc--er, in your head that is!! and then, quick as a rock falls off a kitchen sink, that second hand ticks its last...RRRrrring...the bell!!!...in that ringin' you hear echoes of smashmouth's "flo"--uh-oh, it's starting already!...you feel like teen wolf, your transformation into pure ska beginning tho you resist it so. you sprint out of class and feel the burn in your legs as you make your way through the hallway, already changing into your fedora mid-sprint like a ska clark kent. palm-slam the casette into your sony walkman and there you are--skasylvania. tonight there will be best buds and frisbees and bonfires and devil sticks and cat-in-the-hat hats. but for now...for now. it's just you and the ska. you and the ska.
