n...no?!? i don't know how macs work but over here in PC land we have one os per computer

i could get XP on it if i had to but it would basically mean wiping the computer free of all its files including vista

i am keeping vista around because it will be necessary for games in the future, so this period of inconvenience is an investment of sorts

Gotcha. I just thought Vista wasn't fully developed yet, so I heard you had a choice if you wanted Vista or XP. But they're just making them all with Vista now? I realize I worded that retardedly now.

what the fuck are you talking about James you don't know shit

Alicia, you can install as many OSes on a computer as you have hard drive space for. However, if you install Vista but keep XP "just in case" then you're going to find yourself going back to XP more and more often until you just don't use Vista any more. Better to rip off the band aid all at once, or leave it on until Vista stops sucking (just kidding webber).

James: when you updated the sound drivers, did it say anything specific about Vista support? Because from what I understand a lot of hardware vendors aren't fully pledging support yet and Microsoft is doing a crappy job of helping them make sure they can get working drivers out there. You may need to buy a new sound card that has some kind of "VISTA AUTHORIZED SUPPORTABLE CERTIFIED TWEET FRONK BLBLBLBLBBBLBBLLBBB" logo on it (or install Linux you nub)

good god i guess i don't know what i'm doing then

hang me from the crooked tree and leave my body for the buzzards

(though i do remember a "please choose your operating system" menu way at the beginning so i guess i just plain ignant in retrospect)

As far as I know, the sound driver update I got was meant for Vista. Heck, I don't even know if that's it, honestly. Video game sounds are going fine, it's just when I try to play a video or music file of any kind that it goes BLOOT TWEET ABORT

linux can go fuck itself for the same reason that macs can, and that is because their user base is like 99% arrogance

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a driver issue. Did you assemble the computer yourself, and if not was it advertised as being Vista ready? Have a poke around the website of the dudes that made your soundcard and see if you can find any updated drivers. Vista also has a thing where it automatically looks for newest drivers of all your stuff, but I don't know how good it works.

no, it was all prepackaged from Hewlett Packard and made all ready up ins with Vista on it

edit: also i got the latest sound driver update (advertised as being Vista-Compatible) earlier today but it's still havin problems

edit edit: flash by itself works fine; Homestar Runner presents zero difficulties

on the advice of casey/soda i deleted all the default Hewlett Packard programs on my computer and everything seems to be running all right (though crashing at any given moment is still a possibility)

edit: for example RIGHT AFTER I POSTED THAT maybe

just as a note for the future I didn't recommend he do that in order to fix his problem, I just recommended he do that because he told me that the shark wizard detector pro was running or something and I was like "OH MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU NOT DELETED THE PACKAGED SOFTWARE YET"

Because seriously that is the biggest crime to computers is leaving the millions of retarded programs you'll never use that the manufacturer installed "for you" sitting in your system tray

if you just recently bought it would it do you any harm to clean install vista? or clean install xp and then update to vista again? that would allow you to get rid of all of the crud hp installed and might solve your problem at the same time. or do you have dta you dont want to lose or sommat

ipod touch

Postby webber Cooledge on Tue Sep 18, 2025 3:20 am

Ok we don't have a "jizz over upcoming technology" thread, so this will have to go here. Is anyone getting one of those new touchscreen iPods? When were they announced? The first I heard of it is idly deciding to go to the Apple Store. Does anyone know if you will be able to download songs from the internet (not the iTunes store) or your own computer via WiFi? It would be good if I never had to worry about losing my USB cable again.
