The first I heard of it is idly deciding to go to the Apple Store. Does anyone know if you will be able to download songs from the internet (not the iTunes store) or your own computer via WiFi? It would be good if I never had to worry about losing my USB cable again.

This site says no: http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/09/app ... d-tou.html
Apple confirmed with Listening Post that the iPod Touch will not allow users to download MP3s from web pages over its WiFi connection, so devotees of MP3 blogs will need to stick to the old plan: download to computer, import into iTunes, and sync to iPod.

I don't plan on getting one until they make something bigger than 16gb. I've gotten used to having all my music on one device.

Despite the use of both AdAware and Spyboy Search and Destroy - I cannot seem to remove this pesky pop-up thingy from my computer. It's rooted somewhere and it's fucking desktop icons ('error cleaner', 'privacy protector' and 'spyware and malware protection') keep appearing on my desktop.

I hate his method of marketing more than anything else.

Any solutions?

For this reason I bought a 160GB Classic. It's awesome. The battery life on my old one went to shit, and this one is great. I can watch a bunch of video podcasts and still have the battery meter show full! Before I could watch 2 and the thing would be dead. I was expecting the same interface as before and just an updated exterior, but it's been completely redesigned also. Ok maybe not "redesigned" but more "incrementally updated". Cover Flow is lame though, I don't use it. (I also just got an invisible shield and will be applying it tomorrow)

webber, they announced the Touch at an event about...2 weeks ago? It was on the 6th I believe (there's a MacBreak Weekly from that day so it was on or around there)

And despite being a mostly pro-Vista guy (surprisingly), iTunes on Vista has given me nothing but problems. It's been better recently, but it's still slow and hangs a lot and acts funny.

Yeah, it totally sucks. It also will only let me add music to my library from networked computer one song at a time, whereas Windows Media Player will do the whole folder. They claim iTunes can do this but I can't see where. If you go to "Add folder to library", networked computers just don't show up. Dunno if this is a Vista problem or an iTunes problem though.

No, but that could very well be the factor. AdAware can't do too much to shit that's running in the background.

Yeah, I tried safemode, regular mode, AdAware and Spybot - nothing works. Anyone got another recommendation?

Try AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware. I think the anti-spyware is just a trial though.

This thread seems to be exactly what you have, but the solution is extremely tailored to his system. I guess if all else fails, you can post there and they can fix it. HJT always disorients me.

Fuck. That honestly seems way to complicated for me to even begin to follow correctly.

HJT (Hijack This) looks complicated but to anybody who knows what they are looking for (read: not me) it isn't. If you posted in that thread I'm sure they would post exactly what you needed to do (I don't think you can follow the steps listed because he puts specific things in it that might not mean anything at all for your system) step-by-step.

I have a 5-minute video file on my computer that I want to shrink down in size. Right now, it's 720 x 480 and 159MB(!!) in size. Does anyone know of a free program I could use to scale the dimensions to a smaller size or do something else to make the file smaller?

Something every few minutes on my home computer tries to make my computer open a port to a remote computer. Every time Zonealarm says it stopped it but, it's not like I enjoy my computer making regular attempts to compromise itself. My firewall is at maximum and Avast Anti-virus + Spy-Bot did not stop the problem. I haven't downloaded Ad-aware yet so next time I get home I'll do that, but other than that, is there something else in particular I should try for this?

Take note of the name of the program requesting access, and then search your computer for that and see if it looks dodgy?

It's actually an IP address(?), which yielded no search results.

Ung I hope Zonealarm doesn't fuck up and allow access before I get home to fix it.

Have you tried windows movie maker? I use that to shrink movie files quite often. Unfortunately, if your file is too big it might not even let you edit it in WMM, but if it lets you, that might work for you.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/02/micr ... 4gb-sizes/

The new flash-based Zunes (4GB and 8GB) look pretty impressive. The screen is bigger than an iPod Nano, it plays H264 videos ("iPod format" on Bittorrent) and WMV and MPG4, it lets you SYNC WITH YOUR COMPUTER VIA WIFI HELLO APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING WHY CAN'T THE IPHONE DO THIS, and I like the form factor of it a lot better than the new Nanos (read: it looks more like the old Nanos). It's unfortunate that you have to use their Zune software (why is it not tied into Windows Media Player like iPod/iTunes?) and the "social" stuff only really works if Zunes catch on, but this is a real step in the right direction. Those of you who have been looking for a good mp3 player but don't want an iPod might want to take notice of this. If I was still running Windows I would probably be looking at these pretty seriously.
