I've seen a few photos in tattoo magazines of scarification. Usually it's something very small, and I've only ever seen the finished product. So when Dave(withpeninhand) showed me these pictures of the process, it really freaked me out. I've never seen anything so large and intricate.

You can kinda see what's going on here, but it still mostly looks like they just cut a bunch of hunks of flesh out of her back.

You know, I think it actually looks really cool. It looks like it naturally healed in red, which is pretty neat. I can't imagine they put ink in there because then you might as well just get a regular tattoo. It definitely looks incredibly painful though, and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to sit for this, even if I wanted to. Mostly I'm just amazed that people do this kind of thing. At least its not branding.

That kind of color in the healing seems pretty rare to me. I've looked at this kind of thing a fair amount because I think it's hell of neat and would consider getting it done, and I've never seen color that vivid.

Scars look and feel differently than tattoos. Getting the same thing in the same shade of red via a needle isn't the same. Further, some people like the way the process feels.
