Torrentspy.

I'm only on the 3rd issue but I'm noticing they're already much better drawn, which was really the only thing that was lacking, since Gaiman's a great writer. I think the genre in itself just doesn't appeal to my all that much. I'm more of a "swashbuckling adventure" guy.

It gets better. I have The Absolute Sandman Volume One, which is the first twenty issues plus bonus stuff. It gets pretty good.

Now, sit on it for, like three weeks and then read it again. You will not be sorry.

For anyone new to comics, I'd recommend Marvels and All Star Superman. The former is pretty much a history of the Marvel universe from the perspective of a photographer, from the Golden Age stuff up until the 1970s. It also has excellent art by Alex Ross, and the trade paperback is pretty easy to find. All Star Superman is written by Grant Morrison who just seems to have the character down perfectly. The plot takes place outside of whatever is going on in the main DC universe (Countdown sucks, by the way. Especially when compared to 52). I think there have been 8 issues so far, and I like it a lot more than All Star Batman and Robin.

Since this thread also covers webcomics, I thought I should mention that I am burning through Girly and CuteWendy right now. I tried to read a few Girly strips once before, but I wasn't that interested until now. It's actually pretty excellent though. Probably on par with Sam and Fuzzy.

I'm also slowly making my way through BLEACH, which is interesting. I'm on Chapter 19. I like the secondary characters more than the main characters, though.

Scott Pilgrim Volume Four comes out soon can't wait. :dance

i am a tertiary characters kind of guy because i like all the nameless people in the background who are well detailed more than i like the actual characters

it was great because in one of the character polls, a guy who showed up in the background for one panel got 15 votes (they were all for "the guy second to the right in x panel on x page in x chapter")

Was there a "Second tall man" option?

I love this panel.

I would have voted for the fat guy or the sad girl.

by "sad girl" do you mean the guy with the thought bubble

cause that is a guy and he later becomes a secondary character

Whoopsie.

Aaron Alexovich's new book is out the day before my birthday and despite not knowing anything about it I can almost definitely say it will be one of the best comics of the year. He also did the art for Fables #64 which is out now.

Also, Bryan Lee O'Malley is selling the original artwork for two pages of Scott Pilgrim Volume Three on eBay. It's the best part of the Ramona/Envy fight. Bidding is currently up to $400 US. Just mentioning this in case you are rich and want to own a piece of supercool comic artwork and simultaneously help a guy in Nova Scotia pay his rent.

Also I have finished CuteWendy, I'm halfway through Girly, and I'm thirty chapters into BLEACH. Only somewhere around five thousand pages left to go.

They're reprinting Sam & Max.
Yippee!
I've been wanting to read Sam & Max forever, but the mostly complete collection, Surfin The Highway, was only printed once up until now, and can cost as much as $1000 US. So of course, the fact that it's being reprinted with the few comics not featured in the original is making me a very happy Gingy. :)

After devouring The Dark Knight Returns today, can anyone recommend me some other Batman stuff ... Particularly something which features the Joker and comes in one volume?

Although the premise might sound really stupid, I just read the entirety of Fables and it was awesome.

The Long Halloween and Dark Victory by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. They're not really about Joker per se, but he's featured fairly prominently in both.

There's also Emperor Joker, but it's not nearly as good and is more about Superman than Batman anyway.

For serious (i.e. non-comedy) webcomics, I really like Bohemian Drive and Outside The Box, but both of them are finished. Any other good ones floating around out there?
