You can add me to this list. Only thing it was good for was free DVD's and video games.
What makes it so bad?

All I know is that I would be required to watch movies as part of the job (although that has to be more bad than good).

It's minimum wage with the "perk" of getting 5 free rentals a week, which is BB almost coming right out and saying "Look, the pay is shitty but MOVIES." Combine that with the dreadful customer service methods put in place, which require you to shrug and say "Company policy," nine times out of 10 when customers have issues, which happens extremely frequently. You're always going to have the people who come in and bitch "I RETURNED THAT MOVIE, GIVE ME A MANAGER NOWWWW", so if your manager isn't there, you're basically screwed in trying to appease them. People don't read the terms of their membership, so when you charge them the full price of a rental when they're 6 hours late, you're going to have some problems there, and the general disdain that customers show toward 'dumb movie geeks' is extremely depressing.

Mondays before new movies come out are late nights, because you're required to make room on the shelves, unpack all movies and put them into the BB cases, then put them all out on the shelves before you do your nightly returns. This is ALMOST as fun as inventory night, when you go through the store one late Saturday night every month (Saturday night being the busiest and most nerve-wracking night there) and scan every single thing on every single shelf to find out what people have stolen. After cleaning up the store, doing returns, and counting cash-outs, I've stayed on until 3:30 at an inventory, having to go in at 10 the following morning. I'm sure there's more to add, and that Justin and B will be along directly to fill in the gaps.

ETA - Also, as for the watching movies thing, we were never given that privilege in our store. We were forced to watch the "Blockbuster Television Network" or some shit, which was a tape showing all the new releases along with commercials and stuff that they would play ad naueseum for a whole month basically.

I didn't mind making less money in return for getting free rentals, but that's because when I had the job I was in high school and my parents still admittedly bought all my food and clothes and stuff. I just wanted a little bit of money to buy Gamecube games and go out to dinner with my friends from time to time.

As for all the company policy stuff, that sounds pretty bad. All retail jobs are going to have crappy stuff, so I'm not in a position to say whether it's worse or not there. I had a relatively good experience with the Heezy Veezy.

I loved my job at Movie Gallery for a long time because I definitely did NOT follow the 'rules'. I would play movies on the screens and watch them all day rather than the preview tape, I would wave late fees often, I would give out tons of free rentals to friends, and I'd usually open late and close early. I was a terrible employee in the company's mind but a great one in the customer's.

I didn't mind because if you think about how much money the company makes off of rentals alone (they buy the movie once, often at a discounted price if they buy a lot, then it's a renewable resource of 5 bucks a week at least) they can afford it.

There is a preview reel that plays over and over again, but employees are required to watch new releases in case a customer asks for recommendations or somesuch.

My first job was Hollywood Video:

- 3 rentals a NIGHT (this included game systems as one rental, so you could get an N64 and two games (i'm so old lol) every night. our store NEVER had game systems in stock because of employee rentals)
- Could watch any G or PG rated movie at any time.
- DVDs did not exist

My third job was Blockbuster Video:

- 5 rentals a week (no new releases)
- Had to watch Blockbuster TV videos unless manager got fed up around 10 or 11 at night and threw in army of darkness or something.
- There was one aisle of DVD rentals. No one ever rented them.

Hey what the heck!?
I did a powerpoint presentation for my Leadership class (yes I know do not ask) on David Suzuki and now it won't open. There's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't open. Even the backup that I emailed to myself doesn't open.

This is Microsoft's way of getting back at me for deleting the useless Office applications.

suppose this goes in this thread. i was driving home on the interstate earlier and i saw this big plume of dust. figured it was a dust devil of Epic Proportions but as i passed i saw that it was a car that had just turned over. pulled over the Minivan and ran to the car while calling 911. this other fellow stopped at the same time. a lady was in the car just screamin because her baby was in the backseat. we got her out as i told 911 where we were, etc. lady was hysterical (understandably) because her baby was still stuck in the backseat crying. we couldn't reach the baby because the car was crushed a bit and the back door wouldn't open. this other guy showed up and retrieved the baby with the first fellow as i sat with the lady and said "it's alright" about 50 times. the whole time i was there she didn't stop saying:

"what did i do?"
"i'm so sorry"
"i'm horrible"

after they got the baby i crawled in the car because the lady insisted on him having his pacifier. got that and then stood around for a few more minutes until the Authorities got everything under control. the lady was cut up pretty bad but seemed alright otherwise. the baby had a small scrape on his head and his arm looked like it might've been broken, but he was taking the whole thing better than his mother. she was just really shaken because she thought she had really injured the baby in the wreck.

it was a fuckin weird 25-30 minutes.

the wolfpac saves its first baby of many

Seriously though, nothing rips me up like a baby in peril. I'm really glad the kid is all right.
He could still here they’re giggles. “Let’s get ice cweam, daddy.” NO! It was to painfull. He had to forget. He took a slug of booze to forget. This indicated a potential drinking problem.
