Finding a balance between sexism, sexuality, and racism has and will probably always be incredibly difficult. It's pretty unfair to create a heirarchy of oppression when it has evolved to be so sophisticated and interconnected. Also, folks tend to get offended when bringing a regular-world mentality into academia and vise-versa.

So yeah that actually went better than expected. I mean, we were missing about half the class (3 people) so it was just me and the teacher and three other students who are all pretty cool. Since my stance was pretty moderate nobody raised a fuss, the teacher did admit that he was kinda biased in the amount of documents that he brought in that had said GEORGE BUSH IS 1984 (DONT TAZE ME BRO), and afterwards I talked with a guy who is an Obama supporter who had used a quote from Hilary Clinton negatively in his paper (though he was vague about whether or not he actually liked her) and that went pretty well. Plus I got a lot of compliments about the quality of my writing.

I go in there today telling them my available hours need to be pushed back just one hour cause the bus system here is retarded and it takes me almost 2 hours to get from school, to the main terminal, and transfer to the downtown bus.

They tell me I just better have my car fixed by monday and to get here right after school anyway.

durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. One training day and I already hate that fucking place, but at least I won't be losing out on a great job when I quit in December so I can go home for the holidays. Unless they decide to fire me for circumstances beyond my control that can be easily worked around.

I hope you make it to the day before Thanksgiving and quit. Nothing could piss them off more than quitting the day before the busiest time of the season. Actually, don't tell them you're quitting. When you're scheduled to work the Friday after Thanksgiving they'll be saying, "Where's Rusty? We need another cashier." You'll be sitting in your dormroom eating ramen noodles saying "Oh, sweet revenge. Mwa ha ha!"

I might be getting a new job soon (oh please) and I love the idea of quitting right before the holidays for this reason alone.

I suspect you were joking, but I should explain myself. Also, my job gets my goat because it sucks so much.

I've worked at my current job for over four years and have NEVER requested a holiday off even though we are open 365 days a year. I'm available 24/7. I only ask to be off at 7:30 on Sundays to watch The Simpsons for the 22 weeks it's new and I rarely get that.

I am also, without bragging, maybe the hardest working person there. I put in way more hours than anyone else by coming in on my day off regularly even though there is no overtime. I come in early every day and stay late most days. It's a vicious circle because the more work I do to pick up others' slack, the more work I'm expected to do.

Half of my problem is the nature of the business (never work for a movie theatre). The other half is the company itself. I could deal with one or the other sucking, but not both. I would have found a new job by now, but I hate the entire looking for work process.

1. I wasn't joking at all. It's nothing against you personally, just if I worked with you and you pulled that shit I would hate you.
2. I worked at a movie theatre for a year
3. If you wanna quit before the holidays, that's fine. If you wanna just not show up for the holidays when you're scheduled, that's a dick move. I've worked in busy-as-hell retail and there's nothing more annoying than people who don't come in when they can, or being woken up and asked to come into work because some asshole wanted to show management who's boss. If you wanna stick it to the man(heh, those assholes don't own me) then go right ahead. But I can be pretty sure that there are a bunch of other people who work with you who are in the exact same boat as you are, who work hard, who hate the management, whatever. And you shouldn't fuck those people over. That makes you a dick.

And don't answer that saying that you work harder than everyone and you come in all the time without being paid overtime. Those are your choices, and they don't give you the right to be an asshole at the busiest time of year.

Folby, that is true. I'd like to point out your explanation of the Ask Eli Wallach comic where you said, "If you hate your job so much, quit" as not being possible in every situation.

I know I'm coming across like a dick with my suggestion to quit, but I would NEVER EVER do that in real life. I was joking about Rusty doing that and this new job coincidentally is coinciding with the end of the year. I was going to start looking for a new job at the beginning of this year (purposefully waiting until after the holidays), but I was told a lot of stuff would be changing. Some things did, but it's not good enough to keep me here.

If the job does pan out, I would turn in my two weeks notice like any good employee would. If it's close enough to the holidays to really fuck them, I'd even offer to stick around at a on weekends only until the new year (making a seven day 60+ hour work week).

The reason I work my ass off for no reward is:
1. This is my job and as such is my responsiblity to do what needs to be done which means getting screwed sometimes.
2. I hate dumping off work on someone else like they do to me.
3. I am a sizable sucker.

So, yeah. If I did what I said to do, I'd be a total dick. I'm honestly a really good worker and I'm kind of blowing off some steam. You probably wouldn't mind working with me. When I'm in a portion of the theatre where I work with other employees, I commonly get, "I'm glad you're working. You're one of the managers that actually does your job."

EDIT: A good comparison is that I have a Dwight Schrute level of commitment to every job I've had. I'm not a suck up or nearly as annoying, but I am as dedicated. Almost to a fault.

I've just gotten to the point where I've realized that it's not getting me anything personally outside of a paycheck. So, decided to get out instead of five year down the road going, "Damn. I'm still here. What the fuck happened to my life?"

Unless you're in the army and/or the mafia, I think the possibility is pretty existent.

maynard i think the point is that you have to weigh the money you are receiving against how much you hate working there

or at least it should be the point

Speaking of quitting

I was considering quitting Target for a while now, but I was going to wait till I got a job confirmation. However, today, I was approached by my supervisor. One of my jobs is to backstock electronics, which simply consists of me scanning a product, puting a product in a box on a shelf for storage, and then scanning the box. My supervisor told me that they found large amounts of products in boxes but unscanned. Rather then ask me if there had been a mistake, or if I could help them solve the problem, she told me this was my final warning (I got a first warning?) and that if I do one more thing wrong, I'm fired.

For the record, I am 100% sure this isn't my fault. Either someone is coming in and messing around in there, or there is a computer error. But I'm not aloud to defend myself in this situation.

So, yeah, straw that breaks the camel's back, yadda yadda yadda when you see me at WrestleFest I'll be a jobless man yadda yadda yadda
