Tattoo You

Postby Alan on Sat Aug 18, 2025 6:55 pm

I thought there was an older thread about tattoos but I can't find it.

I am considering getting a tattoo on my shoulder but I was never able to pick something that a) I thought would look good and b) meant a lot to me. I have a good idea now and I was looking for feedback.

I want to get the Hero (Devon Ainsdale) from Quest For Glory in a badass pose like this:

And the more I think about it the happier I am with this decision. It is my favorite game series after all.

Post thoughts/suggestions and tattoo pics

I was looking at this book on tattoos and there were some really neat ones. They were well drawn and very cool looking and they have the images in the book so you can copy them if you want. I am going to scan them and print them backwards and put them all over the place with a transfer pen. I will let you know what the book is called when I go back to get it.

If you want it, get it. That's my feeling.

I have personally never gotten a tattoo because the only two I have considered would need end up being in visible places. This would seriously limit work possibilities as well as violate my current job's policy on visible tattoos.

I have seriously considered for several years getting the arashikage tattoo. A picture for the totally lame people that don't love G. I. Joe:
Image
This I would have to get on my lower right arm for authenticity. I wouldn't accept it anywhere else. I would be forced to start wearing long sleeve shirts or broadcast my complete lack of coolness constantly. If Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes had only gotten the tattoos on their upper arms, I would have broken by now.

I've also mildly considered a triforce on the back of my left hand as Link had one in the Zelda II manual.

I suppose that if you're interested in a tattoo for purely aesthetic reasons, it might not be a bad way to go, but if I were to get one it couldn't be something out of a tattoo idea book. It would have to be either something I came up with on my own. This could mean purely original artwork, or it could mean something specific that someone else created which happens to mean a lot to you. I don't mean to crap all over your idea, but I guess that's what I'm doing.
He could still here they’re giggles. “Let’s get ice cweam, daddy.” NO! It was to painfull. He had to forget. He took a slug of booze to forget. This indicated a potential drinking problem.

I don't have any, but if I ever did these would be the candidates:

Dark Tranquillity's Mind's I design (off center in that picture)
Slayer's Divine Intervention cover
Tarot's Suffer Our Pleasures cover (particularly the evil hand)

The only thing really stopping me is monetary constraints.

I'm with you here Jon. I've been trying for the past could of years to come up with a tattoo design I want, and it's difficult. I can't think of a good one dealing with my cancer survival, but that is the subject I would most likely get a tattoo about. I dont want a band tattoo because they can fall in and out of style with me, and sometimes I just end up not caring about them anymore. The only other thing that I know I would get is just a design that I, or somebody close to me made.

In relation to the West Coast Meetup thread, I have officially decided to get my next tattoo in California. That way I'll have one from Virginia, one from Alabama, one from Florida, and then one from California.

I totally feel the same way but these are FUCKING AWESOME. What I have decided to do, however, is basically use my skills as a crazy good Illustrator Pen Tool user and create my own pattern, which I have done many many times and then put them all over my body and do a series of photographs. I can probably just use the patterns I have already done for dinnerware and it would be cool to have a photo of the pattern on a plate or saucer that continues onto a person.

I don't think I said this in here yet but for my next tattoo I want to take a nice, inspirational word like "hope" or something, type it out in Illustrator, rasterize the font (meaning turn it into a shape with a bunch of points), and then move around the anchor points to totally manipulate it so that it's no longer legible as word but a pretty shape. I tried it already though and it's so fucking hard to get a shape I'd want on my body forever.

I completely agree but I don't think people should even get tattoos for purely aesthetic reasons. It just seems wrong permanently altering your skin for a butterfly or a Peace Frog or something. If you're gonna get something to show off, just buy the tattoo book or something, cause if it doesn't mean anything to you then who gives a shit.

I've wanted a tattoo for a while but this is slowed down by the fact that I have a fat, hairy, pale body and it'd just look weird, and I have yet to find something that I feel so strongly about that I find the need to print it on my body.
Someone here said that they were going to get a tattoo of a Vonnegut drawing, it'd be cool to see that if it happened(and if said person still exists).

I give a shit, isn't that all that matters? I have a small butterfly tattoo, it's not a tribute to a loved one or a visual representation of who I am, or anything like that. I like butterflies, I think the are pretty and I love, LOVE my tattoo. That's it. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a tattoo simply because you think it is pretty/neato to look at if it makes you happy.
You better be careful what you say about Rick Moranis too, he might come over here looking for you

I completely agree with Jamie. People have different reasons for getting tattoos, not for everyone is it a highly important act of spirituality or profundity.
