I Miss the Art Thread

Postby TheEvilGingivitis on Wed Feb 14, 2025 6:15 am

So I'm making a new one.

A few weeks ago I started doing a webcomic in my spare time, updating it on a one-page-every-day schedule. It actually worked for about two weeks, but now that I've started a new semester in school my whole scedule went to crap. Here's what I've got so far, though. It has robots! And blatent inconsistencies!

I need to finish it soon.
Oh, also, I'm trying to get into Fat Chunk, both because I think it's a really good way to get started and beause it's being organized by Jamie Smart. I just don't know what to submit. This is serialized and most of my other work is too old to submit. So I need to draw something new. Maybe something with other robots.

So yeah, same as the last art thread. Post doodles or professional works or what have you.

Well I don't actually own what I work on so that was my concern. Anyway, here is a pattern for a plate I am working on. I trace the drawing in the computer. It is very time consuming.

Can't you just repeat the pattern after a while?

yes alicia. I only do a small section and then it is repeated. then I fit all the small pieces together to form a full plate. This is more difficult then it sounds because if I am a tiny bit off the whole thing is fucked up.

Here's a robot I drew during theatre arts yesterday.
Image

This week, all of my robots look like Canti for some reason. I really like TV-headed and/or spindly-looking robots (and I can't stand gundam-style ones); but ever since FLCL came out I don't think I can get away with doing both at once.

And this is just some random crap I did a while ago that I still kind of like.
Image

He never had a name, but he was a one-off character for a comic I started (but didn't finish) about a year ago. I still like the barbed wire tendrils.

Does that mean you liked the accent or hated it? 'Cause I've really been worried about that. I wanted him to be ambiguously foreign (Hence the Beefeater's hat with kanji on it, the laderhosen-y suspenders, the lumberjack-type checked shirt, etc.), so I gave him a nearly unintelligible accent that I still think might be hard to read.
Also, since I like to randomly throw little things into character dialogue, he never uses contractions.

That's neat. Looks tedious, but I like the finished product.

I loved it. The fact that he talks mostly normally except for throwing in excess vowels is pretty hilarious, especially since he manages to screw up "the," "are" and "to" but not "instruction" or "apologize."

Also, I like that in one page he walks into the Surrealism District.

I need to get around to playing Metroid someday.

And watching the Alien films, come to think of it.

:D

Did you notice the big ol' P-boi tag under the Surrealism District sign? I usually shy away from references, but I crammed a bunch into that page just because I didn't know what else to put on the signs and graffiti.

BTW I really like the comic TEG. Do you have an idea where you are going with it, or do you just make it up as you go along?

Well, I thought up a handful of definite elements early on (It's almost entirely based around one joke, actually), and gradually work around that. Each page comes to mind as I finish the preceding ones, and eventually I got a vague plot outline in my head.
It's like connect the dots. Mostly spontaneous.

I compromised.

I added some vague colouring, too.
