so what is the deal with celebrities' faces

Postby B » Wed Jul 21, 2025 4:49 pm

It's not a new phenomenon, but I'm really shaken lately by celebrities (sometimes TEEN celebrities) getting tons of plastic surgery for seemingly no reason. Take, for example, Megan Fox. Megan Fox's only selling point is that people say she is pretty. So what does she do? Literally destroy herself at age 24.

Image

I understand the concept of bad self esteem existing no matter how pretty you are and how you're always going to want to improve yourself or correct your imperfections if you've got the money. But she isn't the first person to turn her face into that thing, nobody likes that thing, but people keep turning into it. NOBODY likes women that look like that. A boob job, a nose job, whatever. But that face everybody is getting his horrifying, and on an internet full of weird fetishes and perverted desires you're hard pressed to find someone, even one person, who says "whoa she looks a lot better."

What the fuck, guys

what the hell

I wasn't ever really on her bandwagon. I think she ranges. She plays a good hot girl in movies but her swimsuit photos or whatever did absolutely nothing for me. Now she just looks bizarre. What the hell.

If your only job is to get people to unzip their fly and put your name in google image, eventually it's all going to feel too easy. Guys will jerk off to anything. Megan Fox has gone from ugly to uglier in an effort of self-realization.

When she looks like the trapper keeper monster and 13-year-old boys are still handing her flowers, she'll know her work is done.

I've never been into Megan Fox. Hyper-skinny tarts with expressionless, rock-hard faces just don't do it for me.

It might seem passe now, but Christina Hendricks is the sort of celeb I've got the hots for and always looks stunning in every photo I've seen her in. I bring her up because she beat Fox in that Esquire poll for "sexiest woman alive" a few months ago. However, I'm not sure if she's had surgery. I've checked around the Googlesphere but couldn't find anything concrete that she had any work done. In fact, most of the reports I've read indicate the only thing that's fake is her hair colour.

I kind of hope this is true.

EDIT: While on the subject of Mad Men, Elizabeth Moss is also better looking than Megan Fox.

Unless your plastic surgery is preventing back spasms or something I'm always 100% against it. It never seems "fun" to me, just dropping cash to improve your self-image. If you know you set your alarm clock 10 minutes early you remember every morning. How could you ignore the bottom line?

I guess being hot rules.

Fun fact: those polls are totally make believe, because Scarlett Johansson was supposed to be on the cover of that magazine and turned down the shoot because she was busy doing other things. So they kept the results the same, and put Christina Hendricks at the top instead.

Moderation note: this thread isn't necessarily supposed to be about how we don't think Megan Fox is hot, it is about the evils of people making their face look like Madame Tussaud constructed it

No strong feelings about what celebrities do to themselves. If they look ugly when they once did not, I'll just ignore them forever.

the thing i don't understand is that plastic surgery not only doesn't make these chicks any prettier, but it ruins their uniqueness. why, megan fox, willfully go from a beautiful, natural face to a "just-another-plastic-surgery" face?

The only people who see it as more attractive are the voices instead the heads of celebrities just before getting the procedure. Seriously, there are websites devoted to incredibly obese people, midgets, the super tall, old men dressed like babies, everything, but nobody in the entire world goes "oh man, I sure wish her face looked more like that thing from Splice."

The concept that wrinkles or laugh lines or facial blemishes look somehow worse than that monstrosity everyone is turning into is beyond me. Now when you find a female celebrity attractive you've got a deadline.

I'm no expert, but this website called awfulplasticsurgery.com doesn't think megan fox got any plastic surgery (other than stuff to her lips which may or may not have been surgery), and that the difference in her face is attributable to her losing a bunch of weight.

it sure looks like surgery to me, but this guy is the one with the website...

Accepting that, what I'm trying to say is that there is no fan base for that look. The only thing you find is people mentioning how awful it looks and how much prettier she (or anyone) used to be. Very, very rarely do you find someone saying a plastic surgery obsessed person is improving themselves, unless they're being asshole Internet contrarians.

I think it has a lot to do with these celebrities being totally aware that they are where they are because the world wants to whack off at them, and that's a hard thing to take a real active role in. I mean, beyond exercise and clean living, but pfft this is America. So the compulsion is to do what you can to maintain yourself by installing flying buttresses and support beams or whatever the hell to stop the sag before it sags. It's insane and stupid and ruins any beauty that might of had a chance of shining through, but I think it really is deep-down survival instincts kicking in.

This whole entire album is dreadful. It made me lock myself in the closet and almost puke. If I ever hear any of these songs ever again I will drive a stake through the singer's heart and dance the "Tango" on his skull.

it strikes me as kind of the same thing that drives eating disorders, in which beauty standards are taken so such an extreme that the person can't see that what they're doing makes them look scary. in the same vein as what bismark is saying, when you're in an industry that values beauty above all else, and even when you've become immensely successful due to your natural beauty, there will likely exist the desire to improve. people typically want to improve their craft and become the best they can be at whatever they do. megan fox's craft is being pretty, and being pretty mostly involves a mix of genetics and healthy living (hopefully), so it's almost reasonable to think that once you've hit your peaks in those arenas, the only way to improve is to have a load of horrible surgery that doctors and hollywood convinces you will make you prettier.

megan fox is also very young and very famous and probably has all the insecurity and complexes that every young famous person has.

did you guys just completely whiff the paragraph under the picture? This isn't about the pressures of Hollywood, it's the concept of "why is somebody making themselves look like THAT specifically" with the weird eyes and forehead and tight skin and crazy jaw that everyone keeps doing.

The aesthetic, not the moral holier-than-thou bullshit.

Because people think Angelina Jolie is pretty for some reason?. When people are all ready comparing you to Angelina Jolie, you might as well try to look more like her. That's the best I can come up with.

i feel like my post responded to what you were talking about while also weighing the possibility that the pressures of hollywood has a lot to do with the false notion that plastic surgery = automatically more attractive.

and it's not like all plastic surgery immediately makes people look inhuman. a lot of the time it can be done with subtlety, and i bet a lot of the famous women we assume are 100% natural have had some work done. basically all of my rich aunts/female cousins have had nose jobs (to fix that yucky judaism) and i had no idea until my mother recently told me.
