Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden?

Postby B on Thu Dec 06, 2025 7:00 am

Holy shit, you guys.

If Michael Moore is America’s number one documentary filmmaker, then after releasing Super Size Me Morgan Spurlock definitely became number 2. Except while Moore makes more point of view movies, Spurlock’s work is a lot closer to being what we think of when throwing around the word “documentary”.

His next project is by far, his riskiest yet. Spurlock has finished his new movie Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?, in which he sets out to do what the United States government has apparently failed to do: Find Osama Bin Laden. The Weinstein Company bought the thing after seeing only 15 minutes of it at the Berlin Film Festival, and here’s where it gets really interesting. Rumor has it that Spurlock actually found Osama Bin Laden.

The film’s director of photography told SlashFilm that Morgan “definitely got the holy grail.” Since the movie is about him hunting Osama, that would make him the holy grail… wouldn’t it? For now though, everyone around the production is keeping things locked down.

The film is supposed to debut in Park City at Sundance this year, and since tomorrow is the deadline for them to notify people who have received press credentials and I still haven’t heard anything, I guess I won’t be able to report back on it. I’m sure someone more important than us will. Whenever we all finally get around to seeing it, I can’t even begin to imagine the media madness this film will unleash if Morgan Spurlock actually found and hung out with Osama Bin Laden. It instantly raises a lot of important questions like... if mustachioed Morgan Spurlock can find him, don’t you have to assume the US government isn’t even trying?

Note that they are assuming he found bin Laden based entirely on this bit:

The film’s director of photography told SlashFilm that Morgan “definitely got the holy grail.” Since the movie is about him hunting Osama, that would make him the holy grail… wouldn’t it?

I'm preeeeetty sure it would have leaked out somehow if he actually found the most wanted man in the world. There's a 25 million dollar bounty on his head. The US isn't the only one looking for him.

Yeah. This seems entirely retarded. There's no way that the dude who told a nation about how McDonalds IS BAD!!!! found the most wanted man in the world.

Not to be all "bush dumbed the facts" or anything, but while I'm healthily skeptical I'm not ready to discount the possibility. As I recall, bin Laden was last interviewed around 1998 when an independent journalist went through an insanely rigorous process (including several strip-searches, being blindfolded, having all of his recording equipment disabled, etc.) to interview him. The resources we spent toward finding him then aren't all that dramatically less than the ones we are spending to find him now, and bin Laden likes attention. I think that someone with a taste of journalistic success/hubris could stand an outside chance of pulling it off.

EDIT: I'm surprised by how easily I've been able to forget this, but Osama bin Laden deserves a horrible sort of death for what he did and I'd probably find myself disappointed if Spurlock found him and didn't at least tell him that.
He could still here they’re giggles. “Let’s get ice cweam, daddy.” NO! It was to painfull. He had to forget. He took a slug of booze to forget. This indicated a potential drinking problem.

This, if it turns out he did find him, is the glorious point of it all. That we would spend so much money and so many years "looking" for somebody only to have the McDonalds is Bad guy wander over there and just walk up to him.

My guesses are evidence that bin Laden is dead (or has been dead for a while), or getting somebody from our own government on tape saying something they shouldn't have. Those are the two things I can think of.

Well, they got my $10. I'll watch this when it comes out, whether or not they "found" Bin Laden (which they didn't - come on) - I really dont care. I'm just curious about the journey.

And to throw my own two cents in, Bin Laden isn't hiding in some cave, nor is he near death. We're talking about a respected man in that part of the world with a large family (and organizational) fortune. To think he's anywhere else besides a pretty decent house or two is just foolish.

(bah, I've gone and wasted this 1000th post like I did the first 999).

bin Laden is probably alive and the Pakistani government knows where he is and it isn't a cave. The motherfucker is on dialysis for crying out loud. It is entirely possible that the McDonalds idiot found his whereabouts but I highly doubt he actually met with him or even got within 500 yards of him.

Super Size Me was a waste of time.

Going with the assumption that Bin Laden is alive, the best Spurlock could have gotten is proof of who is hiding him or a really good idea of where he is. If he had that, he had better hope with all his might that Bin Laden is still there when the movie is released. Imagine that Bin Laden moving to a new location that we can't find. The American public reaction would be so horrible that I could see people killing Spurlock.

I think people are probably overhyping "holy grail." My guess is that it's probably something big, but nowhere near this level.

Dude is not awesome. He is famous for making a documentary where the conclusion was "hey, McDonalds is bad for you! Who knew!" Maybe I should make a documentary where I don't wear a seat belt for 30 days and then be praised for my brilliance for showing the importance of safety restraints through filming minor injuries I incured as a result of not wearing one. "See, kids, seat belts are cool!" Also, the people who don't know McDonalds is bad for you are not the type of people who watch documentaries anyway.

30 Days is really good. I recommend the border patrol one or the one where the mother is binge drinking.
