Quote:
Ring of Honor and Low Ki, the initial face of the company and first ROH champion, both issued statements early this morning announcing that the two sides would not be working together in the future.

On his official website, Low-Ki.com, Ki wrote, "It is with great regret that I will not be participating in future Ring Of Honor events. Unfortunately, terms and conditions cannot be agreed upon and will end business altogether. My apologies for any inconvenience towards the fans of this company and who have supported me in throughout my tenure as a member of the company."

ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky soon followed up on the ROH message board, commenting, "There has been a disagreement in business arrangements between Low Ki and ROH management. Low Ki has canceled all his ROH bookings as stated in a headline at Low-Ki.com. We will announce new matches for the ones that Ki has already been advertised in next week. This will mark the end of Low Ki in ROH. We are sorry things turned out this way and apologize to the ROH fans for the lineup changes."

Ki, who has butted heads with Sapolsky in the past, was booked for several main events including 2/11 in Long Island, New York vs. Roderick Strong, ROH's ECW Arena debut on 3/11 (Ki & Christopher Daniels vs. Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe) and a reprisal of the first ROH main event (a Three-Way with Bryan Danielson, Ki, and Christopher Daniels) on 4/22. Whatever plans were already motion, ROH will have to start from scratch and rebook. Given the time this story is going to press, it's impossible to contact either party for comment, although I suspect given the wording of the statements that neither side will be interested in commenting.

When Ring of Honor first debuted in February 2002, Ki was the top draw and star for the promotion. He was the first ROH champion as well. A disagreement between he and Sapolsky led to his departure from the promotion. He returned several months later at ROH's Second Anniversary show. Ki departed again after the Henery Hawk NBC situation, publicly distancing himself from the company in statements made on his website. He returned to ROH in July 2004, turning heel on Samoa Joe, and had been working alongside Homicide as the two main forces in the Rottweilers. He had major feuds with Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, and Bryan Danielson (among others)during his tenure with the company. A December 2005 singles bout against NOAH's KENTA at Final Battle 2005 was massively praised and is just starting to make the rounds as it was released on VHS and DVD by ROH.

Low-Ki.com lists Ki as working regularly for Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan as well as competing on 4/8 in the tenth annual ECWA Super 8 tournament in Newark, Delaware. Ki won the 2001 edition of the tournament.

I'm so pissed. There have always been rumors of Ki being a drama queen, and not wanting to job and shit, and for the most part I've taken them with a grain of salt because Ki seems like the kind of person who would cultivate such rumors in the intrest of kayfabe. But fuck all that now. "Terms and conditions" can only mean one of two things: Money, or booking. If it's money he's just an idiot. I'm sure Low-Ki is making as much money as someone in his situation can possibly make, and he's probably making a good deal more than a lot of other guys in similar situations are making. And it's not like he can make more money by walking out of ROH. I don't know how much Gabe pays his guys, but I'll bet that it's more than the ECWA does, or Pro Wrestling WAR, or whoever else Ki can still find to put up with whatever crap he pulls. (I honestly don't know what kind of crap he pulls, but with his track record, it seems highly unlikely that he's not pulling any sort of crap.)

And if it's booking, he's not an idiot, he's just a baby. Losing is part of wrestling. It's just the way it goes. Ki's gone over a lot of people at a lot of points, and for him to not want to pay that back is just rediculous. If it's really that important to you just be an ordinary dick like Steve Corino and go with "Pin me, pay me."

"My apologies for any inconvenience towards the fans of this company and who have supported me in throughout my tenure as a member of the company."

That's such shit. If he were really sorry he would finish out the dates he was scheduled and then just leave after that. But he can't do that. He had to cancel them all, leaving three great matches ruined. Fuck that.

It's worth noting that I don't know Low-Ki's side of the story. I doubt I ever will. All I know is that he won't be facing Roderick Strong on 2/11, he won't be teaming up with Christopher Daniels against Joe and Dragon, and he won't be taking on Dragon and Daniels in a rematch of the EOHB three-way.

Motherfucker. I hope to god this is an elaborate work.

That's a real shame. Low-Ki was really unique, and had some excellent matches against all sorts. He'll definitely be missed.

It does seems very unfair of him not to finish his remaining matches off though, especially the three-way rematch which helped put him and ROH on the map at their start.

Man, fuck that noise. I was so looking forward to the rematch from the EoHB. I guess I'm glad that I got to see Low Ki this past weekend, otherwise I'd never have gotten to see him. And since when do indy wrestlers pull out of future bookings that they've already made? That's pure garbage. Finish the dates, and then go be a little bitch.

That's a bunch of bullshit. Ki has always struck me as sort of ungrateful and undeserving. Not undeserving for lack of talent or charisma or what makes a good wrestler good, but undeserving as far as the whole "Low-Ki mythos" that has been built up around him. I've never quite agreed with his "unbeatable" nature, and he has grown by leaps and bounds as a heel over his 2002 "indie GOD" stature. I was looking forward to the three-way rematch, but I guess that's the way things work. So many people are leaving ROH at this point that I'm kind of starting to wonder if it's because of Gabe. I know that's probably not the case, but you never know.

I hope that this isn't one of ROH's "three big announcements" they've been hyping.

Still, I can't help thinking if this week's Batista Era is to blame.

It's fairly obvious that Gabe played a large role in Abyss, Milano, and Low-Ki leaving. It'd be pretty hard for him not to be involved in some capacity. That said, I don't think it's that far fetched for them to leave because of Gabe.

Gabe is in a precarious situation where many people that ROH made into 'stars' are moving on to bigger things. Many of them still work ROH, but that might not always be the case. And so Gabe needs to prove that you need ROH more than ROH needs you, and nobody is too big of a star, whether you work TNA or NOAH or wherever. Now I don't know if Ki wanted more money or didn't want to job or what happened, but Gabe needs to be in charge, and if that meant showing Low-Ki the door, so be it. It's unfortunate, but understandable. Abyss wanted a bigger role, Gabe said no, so they went their seperate ways. It's Gabe's product and I trust his decision.

So I can believe that these guys are leaving because of Gabe. But that's the way it has to be - Gabe is the boss, after all.
