On Saturday, I'm deejaying my first wedding dance. I'm both excited and nervous. Hopefully you guys can help. Here's the deal. I have four hours of music to fill. I'm playing two slow songs every 30 minutes. I'll play two genre songs in a row, then switch to another genre (e.g. two oldies, then two country songs). Also, I'm starting off with older music (50s and up), while the last hour will have more hip-hop. With the oldies, I'm not too well read, so to speak.

I'm sure many of you have expansive music knowledge, and many of you have probably been to a few weddings. Right now, I'm just looking for suggestions (and reminders) of what I should play. Keep in mind, I'm not going to play the Pixies or anything under the common man's radar. Most of this music sucks by internet popularity, I know. But if you can, just throw out the song along with the genre it's in, I'd be a grateful dude indeed.

Example:

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight (Slow Dance)

Beatles - Twist & Shout (Rock/Oldies)

Also, feel free to throw in suggestions on which songs should be played back to back.

Re: Oldies, the Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes For You" is one of my favorite romantic songs ever (which is admittedly a short list). I guess people can slow dance to it..?

Two old country songs to be played back to back:

Johnny Cash - Get Rhythm
Hank Williams - The Lovesick Blues

Two Tom Petty songs with Girl in the title that should be played back to back just to make people go "Now wait a dern second here!":

American Girl
Here Comes My Girl

Personally for inoffensive dancin' tunes, I don't think it gets any better than half the songs Buddy Holly ever recorded followed by the other half.

If you play Paradise by the Dashboard Light I will fucking murder you.
I don't care if I'm not invited.

So yeah, play God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.

A really great song, if you can get ahold of it, is John Lennon's "Grow Old With Me". I think it was on his album Milk and Honey, but it's a great wedding song. The type of song a bride and groom can slow dance to.

Wouldn't It Be Nice - The Beach Boys
Old Time Rock N' Roll - Bob Seger
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Golden Slumbers - The Beatles (NOT Golden Showers, that one is less appropriate)
Centerfold - J. Geils Band
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
Dark End of the Street - from The Commitments soundtrack
Anything from Marvin Gaye and/or Al Green
What'd I Say - Ray Charles
Linus & Lucy - Vince Garibaldi

That's all I got right now.

Awesome stuff, guys. Thanks. Here's what I've come up with on my own so far:

Slow:
-------
Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight
Nat King Cole - Unforgettable
Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss a Thing
Journey - Faithfully
"Strawberry Wine"
KC & JoJo
Elton John - Your Song
Coldplay - Fix You
U2 - With or Without You
Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

Country:
----------
Shania Twain - Feel Like a Woman
Gretchen Wilson - Redneck Woman
Big & Rich - Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart

Rock/Oldies:
---------------
Isley Brothers - Shout
Van Morison - Brown Eyed Girl
Simon & Garfunkle - Cecilia
Wild Thing
Great Balls of Fire

Classic Rock:
----------------
AD/DC - Shook Me All Night Long
Def Lep - Pour Some Sugar On Me
Ram Jam - Black Betty
Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down To Georgia
Sweet - Ballroom Blitz

Pop:
-----
Celebration
YMCA
Mickey
Gloria Gaynor
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Wannabe
What Is Love?
Livin' La Vida Loca
Dancing Queen
Zoot Zoot Riot
Jump/Jive
Baby Got Back
Tootsie Roll
Ice Ice Baby
Fight For Your Right To Party

On the poppy crap, I'm fine. I'm confident with the slow songs, but obviously my biggest problem is with the country, which will probably be in high demand. I could use a little more rock, too. Keep the suggestions coming!

As far as "new" country:

Somethin' Like That - Tim McGraw
Perfect or Suds in the Bucket (just pick one at random)- Sara Evans
Little Moments Like That - Brad Paisley (slow)
What Was I Thinkin' - Dierks Bentley (extra points because his name is DIERKS. DIERKS BENTLEY)
Callin' Baton Rouge - Garth Brooks

Classic rock:

You can never go wrong with Bob Seger. Seriously.
Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police
You May Be Right - Billy Joel
Rock This Town - Stray Cats
Radar Love - Golden Earring
Rock N' Roll Hoochie Coo - Rick Derringer
Up Around the Bend - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Love Is Alright Tonite - Rick Springfield
Your Love - The Outfield

The Beatles stuff always provides showstoppers:

In My Life
Real Love
And I Love Her
Twist and Shout
Something
Here Comes the Sun
Getting Better All The Time
When I'm Sixty-Four
All You Need Is Love
Across The Universe
The Long and Winding Road

Another on the oldies front: "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, "Imagine" by John Lennon, "No More Lonely Nights" by Paul McCartney, and "This Magic Moment" by Jay and the Americans.

It was re-popularized among many by The Wedding Singer.

I would strongly suggest some Stevie Wonder. "Isn't She Lovely," "As," "Knocks Me Off My Feet," "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)," "Love Having You Around." A lot of it, especially as he gets older (ignore anything from the '80s and beyond), is a little corny but I like it nevertheless, and the stuff I've mentioned is definitely good wedding music.

Justin wins.

Back when Horatio Sanz was still in the vicinity of funny.

Elvis Presley's "Falling in love with you" good slow song.

Oh, and the Tootsie Roll.
