Post subject: P-Boi Wrestling Mix Tape - Week 4 |
|
|
I wanted to post an Eddie match this week. There's another thread in this forum that took care of that. So hey. We can't dwell. We can't keep thinking about him like he's dead. We have to remember him for what he was, for who he was, and for what he did. We don't need a mix tape to remember that. We all still fucking miss you, Eddie.
So yeah. Week 4. We need to cheer up, right?
The blood feud rages on.
These men are bitter enemies.

Having just finished watching Smackdown, I'm super glad that you posted this match. Ebessan cracks my shit up every time I see him, and this was no different. The arm wringer-dancing spot has got to be my favorite. I will say, this is the first PWG match I've ever seen, and considering the talent that they draw, I can't believe how fucking small the crowd was. What was that, a lecture hall? And the announcers, while occasionally funny, (I can't resist a Mentok referrence) were absolutely horrible. The match more than made up for it, though. And Ebessan's promos? "Taro, you are... greatest cocksucker. ... I'm sorry -- I'm sorry. You are... greatest homosexual." Wonderful. _________________

If I were in charge of TNA, these two would be very high on my list of 'wrestlers to sign.' They're something the vast majority of the country hasn't seen, and would probably enjoy. But none of this has to do with the match.
This match sees a lot of the common tricks used by Ebessan and Kushinbo, but by no means all of them. I've seen them wrestle each other at least a dozen times, and it never gets old.
My favorite points of the match:
- Kushinbo's full-speed selling of Ebessan's slow-motion shining wizard.
- Kushinbo's immediate fading when he gets caught in the sleeper hold.
- Ebessan nutting both men with the rope, the kicking them both in the crotch.
- The bottom rope breaking. Ah, the charms of indie wrestling.
- The bit where the duck under each other's arms rather than lock up. That brings me to my next point:
What I love most about the comedy matches from Osaka Pro, and specifically those from Ebessan and Kushinbo. Like the ducking under the lock-up. They've fought so many times, they can just skip the lock up and go straight to the standoff. Kushinbo doesn't act like the sleeper is taking him out, he just goes where it's leading: His hand gets raised twice and he starts his comeback. Earlier this year I saw Ebessan trade shining wizards with Nosawa, because hey, that's what guys do on the indies: They trade finishers. There's something wonderfully reactionary about what they do.
Oh yeah, and Jim: PWG DVDs all contain the option of watching without commentary, without turning off the other sounds, like the wonderful snap of the bottom rope. Also, their crowds sucked for a long time, but they kept on plugging away at it, and Super Dragon kept on being Super Dragon, and the crowds slowly grew. Last I heard, they were drawing between 200 and 300 people per show, and running more shows. |

Holy fuck, I had heard of these guys but this is the first time I've seen them in a match and it was fucking hilarious. I loved every second of it.
The chop battle kicked ass, as did Ebessans walking out of the way of dives and taking out the ref for no good reason other than to be a prick.
And the shoulder tackles? Genius.
I also finally discovered where the hell the move "Accident 2" from the Smackdown! games originated. Learn something new every day.
I also laughed out loud at the "Hatred slash friendship" line and the sideways duck of the clothesline and spinning side kick. _________________

Fun as hell.
I have never seen any of this before and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I think that they have a lot more appeal to indy wrestling fans who get more out of the stand-offs and spots of that nature. I still think common wrestling fans can enjoy it as well.
Promos were fun as well.
Are all of their matches similar or is there enough variation to make them unique? |

If you like this match, you should try to check out the four corner survival match in ROH that had Ebessan, Samoa Joe, Delirious, and Jack Evans. One of the most hilarious and fun matches I've ever seen. _________________ And this is a promise, because this is true. This is real. This is Straight Edge.

Any match with Jack Evans is already a joke, so it works. _________________ shrieking raccoon on a jetpack |

Jolly good fun. Having never seen these guys I went into it not really knowing what I was getting into. I believe my first uttered words were "hahaah, what the crap is this match."
The "HOLY SHIT" chant after the slow-mo chop battle cracked me up. This worked because the commentators and the crowd played their parts, and it's impossible to not smile at the outfits these guys wear alone.
I loved the fact that the referee was wearing a singlet as well as a referee outfit. That's funnier than a referee wearing a mask. And I loved when he couldn't make the three count because his nuts still hurt. I guess that's why he's "greatest cocksucker." Hehehe. _________________ That's Sandy Frink? I'm digging Ebessan more every time I see him, although he definitely needs an opponent that can work his kind of match. Kamen is pretty much perfect in that regard. I had never seem him before and he looked very impressive, especially the Skytwister Press at the end. Amazing Red cries himself to sleep at night wishing he could execute a move in such a gorgeous manner, wherever he is.
They promised to show me the greatest comedy match I have ever seen and succeeded gracefully. This definitely makes me want to go out and get some old Osaka Pro stuff. _________________

A friend of mine actually got invited to work a handful of Osaka Pro matches earlier this year, and he actually stayed at Ebessan's house while he was over there. His Ebessan stories in and out of the ring convince me that Ebessan may well be the P-Boi of professional wrestling. _________________ And this is a promise, because this is true. This is real. I think it's a clear violation of the Geneva Convention to hint that you're in possession of such stories without following up. _________________

| That was really funny. I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the picture of the two guys with masks on. Unfortunately my speakers suck and I couldn't really make out what they were saying before the match. And I've never seen the Cancun Tornado before. That move is pretty awesome. |

| I remember seeing a 2/3 falls match with these two some months back. For a 20 minute segment that had absolutely zip for English, I was quite entertained. For some reason, the first fall lasting a grand total of six seconds made me laugh the most, followed closely by the slow-motion rope-running/chop-fest |
