Just kidding, friends. Emily is a joy and a delightful conversationalist.

She does have one of those annoying viruses which propigates itself automatically through AIM via an inconspicuous link to a downloadable .exe file though. So be weary of any suspicious links sent to you from her at random.

Chuck was kind enough to provide me with the url for the link since I closed the window a few seconds after recieving the message. I'm posting it here for anyone who may be able to help her out. It bears repeating that this is most likely malicious in nature, so do not click it.

DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK

DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK

Anyway, I figured I'd give everyone the heads up, as this is something I've had to help people with before and it isn't very fun. If anyone can help Emily out, I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

I clicked on the link, it tried to get me to download something. It would probably be a good idea to not do that!

Is this AIM virus similar to, or different from, the problem B was/is having?

Same thing, I believe. There are different versions of the link that pop up, so don't go clicking any strange links people send you, unless they fully explain what it is, and so forth.

I had him run Stinger, and I thought it fixed the problem. I guess not Sad

B/Emily, try running Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool

Already done that, and I've run the "FixAIM" thing Bill sent to me. It says everything is cleaned. So I don't know, maybe it's risidual, or maybe the problem is solved now? Oh I don't know.

Well, those don't catch everything, but I thought they might find whatever it was you had. Sad

MSN has it's own share of bullshit viruses like that.

A good number of my friends have the one that constantly asks me WANT TO KNOW WHO HAS YOU BLOCKD CLICK HEREE. Another classic one my friends have caught is the "Thomas Haden Church hey this is a picture of you".

4 years ago a friend of mine got MSN and within weeks caught a virus that constantly remarked to everyone how George Bush liked balls or something and to see proof click here.

Today, I heard that *bling* sound you normally hear when you type something to someone, except I wasn't talking to anyone. I just heard it. It happened while I saw Chuck signing off. I hope that has nothing to do with the virus.

Was it different from the regular signed-off sound?

Every time I read the title of this thread, all I can think of is: "Do NOT go to church."

When I had (caught?) an aim virus, it showed up on the list of programs. So all I had to do to get rid of it was remove it using the "Add/Remove Programs" utility.

Hopefully that will work for you too Emily/B.
