A thread for some of the coolest, prettiest, most inspiring, and/or retarded photos from the history of the game base ball. In the interest of both 56k and everyone else, try to post no more than a few at a time. Let's try to keep this going, because God damn do I love baseball.

To get us started:

My favorite picture of my sports hero. I'll let Jon post that wonderful one of George Brett.

Buck O'Neil, my favorite human being.

1999 All-Star Game. Ted Williams tipping his cap at Fenway Park.

Here's the one B was talking about. This was after George Brett's final home game.

And one of the many great photos from the 1991 Topps set.

A couple more reasons to love Jim Thome.

Contrary to somewhat popular belief, this wasn't after the Robin Ventura fight, because Ryan didn't let Ventura touch him. This was after a Bo Jackson line drive whacked him straight in the mouth. Most players would have left the game without a doubt.

Pete Rose engaging in a variety of acts which have made the game awesome.

Brooks Robinson. And you know what makes this picture great? It looks like he just got hit by a bus and I guarantee you that the ball he threw to first was a perfect strike.

My all-time favorite baseball player and the sweetest goddamn swing I've ever seen. They called him "The Thrill", but the more apt nickname was "The Natural". In his first major-league at-bat, he hit a home run. Off of Nolan Ryan.

Also,

Goosebumps.

And there is no one in the stands to see Brooks do it. Ken Caminiti made quite a few plays like that but never looking like he got hit by a bus.

I wish someone would have signed Rickey to play some more. Pure excitement.

And one of the sweetest swings there is.

As cliche as it may be, few baseball pictures ever filled me with as much glee.

And for anyone who says baseball isn't exciting:

I go to about 30 games a year and take my camera to 3/4 of the games, so I am obsessed with baseball photography. This is a collage I made from some of the pictures I had taken prior to last season.

I'll post more historical pictures from professional photographers when I think of some. Though, if you look closely, one of the pictures is when the Dodgers clinched the division in 2004 and another is during Jose Lima's CG SHO in the DS that year versus the Cardinals. Dammit, I miss baseball so much.

One of the most emotional, gripping photographs I've ever seen, from Lou Gehrig's retirement speech.

And of course, a classic.

He had quite possibly the best single-season ever by a pitcher in 1968. But that's an entire different topic in itself (and also one of my favorites). I wish the Cardinals would've won that year.

This guy had some of the best years ever by a pitcher too, and I say this unbiasedly:
