CRIME DOG'S DAY

They could have sung me just one song
To kind of sort of celebrate.
I know I'll miss the Hall of Fame
'Cause five hundred is what it takes.
For seven more chances to hit it out
Seven more chances to cross the plate
I'd play for anyone who'd take me --
Kansas City?  Tampa Bay?
I'm sitting here in my nice big house
Where I've been living since early May
I'm watching ball on my big screen
I cannot stand to live this way.
Give me a call and I'll be there
Quicker than anyone can say
"That Fred McGriff, he's still got it,
He plays how you're s'posed to play."
For there is no better place on earth
Than a baseball diamond, home or away.
The sky is clear, the grass is green
Enough to ease your cares away.

But all's quiet; the phone ain't ringin'.
I sit alone, and the world's turned gray.
'Cause no one wants an old Crime Dog,
And this ain't much of a summer day.
