Baseball's Tribute to
Shel Silverstein

NINE BASEBALL GREATS

Nine baseball greats no one was buyin'
All broke loose one afternoon.
Nine baseball greats with strings a-flyin',
Free to do what they wanted to.
One went off to play football - POP!

One juiced up to get in the Hall - POP!

One left mid-game and was done for life - POP!

One lost his vision and beat his wife - POP!

One gambled away everything he was worth - POP!

One shot up with every painkiller on Earth - POP!

One won't quit, and everyone hates him - ASS!

One played 'til the majors wouldn't take him - POP!

But one baseball great no one was buyin' --
He sat himself down and away he flew.
Free to float, and free to fly

And free to retire when he wanted to.
