This is my ice-breaking fun fact of choice. The
first time I tried beating Mario 1 as fast as possible was in
November 2002, during my college radio show. I finished in just
under 7 minutes. At the time, I was unaware of the online time
attack "scene," or the official world record, so this
was pretty impressive to my co-hosts & me. This recording
is my best run to date, completing the game in under 5 1/2 minutes.
A few other things of note:
I do NOT claim to be the first or the fastest person to do
this. The game can & has been finished in quite a few seconds
under this.
This movie was recorded using the emulator VirtuaNES, &
played using a keyboard. No tricks, codes or cheats were used
to change the normal gameplay in any way.
This is NOT a time attack. It is an unaided, unedited runthrough
of the game. Of course, what you're watching is the last of
like a hundred tries.
