The New Adventures of Jonny
Quest
Animal
Rock Man
Outfit: rock loincloth
Tagline: "I will go this way!"
Plot summary: When the Jonny Quest cartoon
was resurrected in 1987, the creators wanted to add some spice to the site in order to
shed their stone-age image.
So they introduced a character that was made of 100% rock. A nameless rabble of evil
henchmen were attempting to bring an ancient statue to life, but were thwarted by the
Quest Team, who brought him to life my shoving him into some sort of tanning booth.
HardRock specialized in lifting heavy things and singlehandedly ruining the entire show. (more)
User Comments: HardRock
was possibly the most uncreative idea for a cartoon character ever. If they were any less
creative they would have made a superhero called Matter Man, who is composed of atomic
structures and interacts with various objects that surround him. Perhaps the greatest
tragedy is that they named a character HardRock and didn't drive a '57 Chevy through him.
HardRock is a testament to the Quest Team's stubborn refusal to let a black guy on the
show. They eventually hit the bottom of the barrel and had to choose either a black guy or
a rock as their next character. When the "Real Adventures of Jonny Quest"
premiered in 1997, HardRock was gone, but there were still no blacks anywhere, as the
Quest Team decided to go with Paralyzed Old White Man In Wheelchair #8. Perhaps they feel
like drawing black people uses up too much ink.
