Doggie Daddy (1959)

Cartoon
The Quick Draw McGraw Show

Animal
Doggie

Outfit: dog collar

Tagline: "Holy shit, I'm a dog and evidently my dog wife left me."

Plot summary: After offscreen "Puppy-Mama Drama" leaves him a single parent, the aptly named Doggie Daddy (who I guess had identity problems before actually having a child) attempts to keep his bright but precocious son Augie out of trouble. He was also possessed by the spirit of Jimmy Durante. Was Jimmy Durante even dead when this cartoon came out? I don't think he was. But I'm in my twenties, going AH CHA CHA CHA is all the Jimmy Durante knowledge I'm constitutionally entitled to. (more)

User Comments: Finally, a Hanna-Barbera cartoon character that makes sense. He's a dog, so he wears a dog collar. It's purple, which isn't very "daddy" of him, but I'm not going to nitpick. The only bizarre fashion choice on the "Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy" segment is honestly the fact that Augie wears a t-shirt. My intial thought is "This is like that SNL sketch where the naked guy takes his son to the baseball game and doesn't realize that revealing his shame is a social faux paus." Then I remembered that people often put their dogs in random stupid clothing, which would explain the hiding of puppy chest. Besides, aren't a puppy's nipples down near the wiener anyway? He'd have to wear a t-shirt around his ass. He could put his tail through the head hole. Heh, that'd actually be pretty cute.
